Job summary Interviews are to be scheduled for 30th January 2025 We are looking to appoint a Consultant Orthopaedic Spine surgeon to our innovative and ambitious Orthopaedic department which is expanding both clinically and academically in terms of number of consultants, workload and increasing sub-specialisation.
This purpose of this appointment is to expand on the existing level of elective and trauma spinal surgery within the Trauma & Neuro group.
The successful candidate should be trained in all aspects of general Orthopaedics and Trauma or neurosurgery, to have reached CCT standard in T&O or neurosurgery and should be able to manage the whole spine.
Informal site visits will be welcomed and offered for candidates who are shortlisted" Main duties of the job Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and audit All consultants are required to demonstrate active participation in CPD and Audit.
To aid this, once a month all elective commitments are stood down for half a day and meetings take place in the Clinical Sciences Building for hours of CPD which is includes the monthly QIPS meeting and is included in the baseline of SPA for the role.
This session includes both sub-speciality breakout groups and trauma sessions led by both internal and external speakers.
These sessions count towards programmed activities and are consequently compulsory.
All new consultants will have a nominated mentor allocated from within the trust and the department also nominates a mentor from within the department.
Teaching As a University Teaching Hospital the successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching.
We currently provide teaching in 8 week blocks to 28 medical students at a time for Warwick Medical School.
Consultants also take an active role in the teaching of foundation doctors and CT1/2 on the Warwickshire Surgical Training Scheme, and Specialist Registrars on the Warwick Orthopaedic training scheme.
In addition there is a wide variety of 'in-house' teaching to other healthcare Professionals.
Many members of the consultant staff teach nationally and internationally.
