Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove in partnership with Here are launching a new dementia clinic in Sussex.
This not for profit service will offer low cost dementia assessment, in a context of access to support for people who are concerned about memory loss or dementia, for themselves or a loved one as well as family members and carers.
This unique collaboration is built upon long standing Age UK services and support for older adults, with an intention to enable early diagnosis and access to support at every stage.
Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide specialist advice and supervision to our team of specialist nurses and GPs (GP with Special Interest) to support diagnosis formulation and service quality.
The role holder would also be able to support our assessment clinics by undertaking diagnostic assessments on an ad hoc basis for individuals with cognitive impairments, including dementia and related memory disorders.
The supervision ensures consistently high-quality care that aligns with national guidelines and local protocols.

We want all employees to belong, thrive and contribute to our purpose, creating exceptional care, for everyone.Job responsibilitiesClinical Duties: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and neuropsychiatric assessments for individuals referred for a memory assessment.Support formulation of diagnosis as part of a multi-disciplinary team working with specialist nurses and/or GPs who undertake memory assessments.Leadership and Service Development: Provide clinical leadership and supervision to a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, specialist GPs, and support workers.Ensure compliance with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and other relevant clinical standards.Contribute to the planning and delivery of staff training and professional development within the service.Administrative Responsibilities: For Clinic duties Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and documentation in line with organisational policies and information governance.Support preparation of reports, care plans, and letters to primary care, patients, and families.Participate in clinical meetings, governance audits, and case discussions where appropriate.Undertake mandatory training and appraisals as required by Here.Administrative Responsibilities: For supervision Maintain accurate and up to date supervision records in line with professional standards and guidelines.Team & Culture Work closely with other members of the team, to provide cover where able and support a timely, high-quality service.Work flexibly where able to ensure diagnoses can be formulated and provided to clients in a timely fashion.Person SpecificationKnowledge, skills and CompetenciesGood understanding and knowledge of the organic aspects of psychiatry.Thorough knowledge of legislation relating to Mental Health.Demonstrable evidence of effective communication skills.Evidence of teaching skills including for teaching medical, nursing and support staff.Personal AttributesMember of a medical defence association.Proven ability to liaise and maintain a professional relationship with a diverse range of people.ExperienceBroad based training in psychiatry.Experience & training in management of mental illness.Specialist knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and management of dementia.QualificationsBasic Medical Training and/or equivalent experience.Full GMC / UK Registration.MRC Psych or equivalent.CST and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register expected within 6 months.Section 12 approval and AC approval.Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
