Consultant Psychiatrist in South East Focussed Support TeamSouth London and Maudsley NHS Foundation TrustSouth London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking to recruit a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the South East Focussed Support Team. This is an integrated medium to long-term support service comprising clinical, social care and voluntary sector staff that provides multidisciplinary assessment and support. Embedded in local communities and developing strong links to the local Primary Care Networks, the team supports people to recover, stay well, make their own choices and participate in the community.
Along with the co-consultants and senior colleagues in the South East Living Well Centre, the post holder will co-lead the team which is multi-disciplinary and comprised of both conventional and new workforce.
The team normally has 15 new referrals per month, among which approximately half are eventually accepted and transferred to the team. The team discharges about 12 patients per month on average to primary care or another team within or out of the borough. The overall caseload for the team is around 280-290 patients, for which the post holder will share responsibilities for oversight of care with the co-consultant. There are 2-4 urgent assessments per week with the duty team and a doctor within the service or care coordinator for the patient in crisis. The post holder will carry out 8-10 scheduled reviews per week, which are a combination of CPA reviews and medical reviews.
Main duties of the jobThe main clinical duties are to provide senior medical input as consultant psychiatrist / Approved Clinician for the patients treated under the South East Focussed Support Team, and to be part of the joint senior leadership for the team and South East Living Well Centre. There is reciprocal Approved Clinician cover including under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act for the leave, study leave and sickness of senior medical staff in Lambeth during working hours.
The post holder will provide out-of-hour senior medical input as per the Lambeth consultant on-call rota (1:22) with a category 'B' 1% banding supplement.
As for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, one full-time CT is placed in the team; one of the co-consultants is currently their Clinical Supervisor. There are year 3 medical students of King's College London allocated to the team for their longitudinal placements.
About usThe successful candidate will work in Lambeth SLaM, which is part of the Living Well Network Alliance (LWNA), a collaboration with the local place-base of the South East Integrated Care Board (SEL ICB), local authorities, and two voluntary sector partners (Certitude and Thames Reach). The LWNA is the first Alliance in the country to provide whole system mental health care for working age adults with innovation, co-production and population needs at the centre of service development and delivery.
The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust. There are ample opportunities for educational and academic roles and collaborations as SLaM is part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre and also the only mental health trust in the UK to have its own biomedical research centre, hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London.

There is support for newly appointed consultants in the StartWell group. As part of this, the post holder will have the opportunity of having a more senior consultant as a mentor.
