Job summary We are looking for a dynamic, charismatic clinical lead for our Acute Assessment Unit (Mulberry 1) based on our Fulbourn site in Cambridge.
Mulberry 1 forms part of our innovative and ambitious model of care, known as the 3-3-3 model.
The three adult inpatient wards work collaboratively to enable patients to access the right care at the right time.
The 3-3-3 model consists of Mulberry 1 (AAU), 3 days, Mulberry 2 (Treatment), 3 weeks and Mulberry 3 (Recovery), 3 months.
Mulberry 1 requires a strong clinical leader to support and maintain the fast-paced assessment and stabilisation of our service users.
This is a fantastic opportunity to hone your diagnostic, admission, and discharge assessment skills.
You will need to work collaboratively and effectively with other consultant colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Why Adult Acute Care?
Junior doctor support in the form of Specialty doctors, higher trainee or a core psychiatric trainee is provided.
The ward also has a full-time middle grade doctor.
The ward is co-located with the Crisis Home Treatment Team and adjacent to the other two adult inpatient wards, with substantive consultant Psychiatrists in post.
These consultants form a key part of a multiprofessional clinical leadership team across the wards, providing a source of mutual professional support and collaborative working.
You will lead on and initiate service development programmes to ensure our teams continue to evolve and provide high quality care.
A consultant mentor is offered to all new consultants as part of a well-established package of support and engagement with the wider consultant body across the Trust.

Work closely with other consultant colleagues to ensure that the patient journey is as smooth as possible.
Give clinical leadership and actively liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists and other hospital specialists, statutory and non-statutory agencies, whenever relevant to the care and treatment of patients.
Be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care.
Use evidence-based interventions at all times.
Offer a consistent response to referrers/service users regardless of origin of referral in a timely fashion.
Offer an accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that intensive treatment can be delivered to prevent chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services, in accordance with the recovery model.
Attend Mental Health Act assessments as requested for relevant patients.
Act as the Responsible Clinician for inpatients including attending Tribunals, as necessary.
Participate in the development and maintenance of care programmes for patients.
Supervise junior and middle grade doctors in the team.
Participate in the teaching programmes of the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to the collection of clinical information to ensure further service development and to enable audit.
Work closely with Consultant colleagues to contribute to the provision of appropriate Consultant cover for daytime, 9 am to 5 pm, (working days) and for periods of annual/study/special leave.
Participate in the on call Consultant rota primarily for advice as Consultants are on the 3rd Tier.
Participate in clinical governance activities.
Contribute to the teaching activities in the Trust.
Participate in teaching within the trust.
Contribute to the day-to-day management and to the overall service development agenda through appropriate involvement with managerial and clinical colleagues.
Undergo annual appraisal and fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development (CPD) in order to meet the criteria for revalidation by the General Medical Council.
Agree a job plan with the Clinical Director.
Attend the Trust Wide Medical Advisory Groups.
Person Specification Education/Qualifications Essential Full GMC registration and licence to practice MBBS or equivalent Approved Clinician Status or eligible to attend training Desirable Relevant Higher Degree MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications Completion of Clinical and Educational Supervisor Training Entry criteria for grade Essential Specialty Registration in specialty CCT in relevant specialty or within 6 months of attainment of Higher Training CCT at time of interview Shall have equivalent experience and competencies recognised by GMC Experience Essential Experience in assessing and treating mental health patient in out-patient and community settings.
Experience of multi-disciplinary working Experience of training doctors in training Desirable Experience of working across different services within mental health.
Other relevant experience, specific psychological therapies.
Qualifications of experience in managing physical illness Skills/Ability/Knowledge Essential Previous experience in taking a leadership role in several multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high quality care and staff morale.
ability to appraise own performance Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.
Desirable Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills Knowledge of recent changes in case law, in relation to Mental Health.
