Job overviewAs a Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician, you will be responsible for ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care by providing a comprehensive psychiatric service to people with a Learning Disability and Forensic needs in Cheshire and Merseyside.
The psychiatry role includes Approved Clinician provision for individuals subject to Conditional Discharge or Community Treatment Orders under the Mental Health Act, with an anticipated caseload of approximately 20 people.
Main duties of the jobFulfilling the Community Responsible Clinician responsibilities for patients accepted into the service.Providing outpatient or community clinics and home visits; no inpatient duties are associated with the post.Undertaking statutory responsibilities under the MHA, MCA, DoLS, and Consent to Treatment.Providing direct clinical work including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders.Participating in regular MDT meetings, CPA reviews, MAPPA, safeguarding, and risk reviews.Providing clinical leadership and fulfilling the Responsible Clinician role.Liaising with forensic support services and attending professional meetings.Working for our organisationMersey Care is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving over 1.4 million people across our region.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) is a newly commissioned service for patients with a learning disability and/or autism with forensic needs, serving the community in Merseyside and Cheshire.
The SCFT provides preventative, reactive, and evidence-based interventions through a combination of specialist risk assessments, management, face-to-face therapeutic interventions, and support.
Work collaboratively with in-patient services to reduce length of stay.Support step down and recovery in the community.Apply a proactive risk management approach to enable service users to fulfil their individual potential.Deliver offence-specific therapeutic interventions.Ensure robust multi-agency involvement to ensure public/community safety.Person specificationQualificationsFull GMC Registration or eligibility to be included on the register.Section 12 approval.In possession of Approved Clinical Status.MRCPsych or equivalent.Eligible for inclusion in Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT.ExperienceKnowledge and experience of assessing and treating individuals with learning disability and/or autism.Treating individuals with forensic needs.Personal SkillsLeadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.Excellent communication skills.Ability to manage own time and workload.TransportHolds and will use valid UK driving licence or provides evidence of proposed alternative.Academic Skills and Lifelong LearningAbility to work constructively and lead a multidisciplinary team.Participated in continuous professional development.
