Job overviewAs a Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician, you will be responsible for ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care by providing a comprehensive psychiatric service to people with a Learning Disability and Forensic needs in Cheshire and Merseyside.
The role includes Approved Clinician provision for individuals subject to Conditional Discharge or Community Treatment Orders under the Mental Health Act, with an anticipated caseload of approximately 20 people.
You will be required to conduct specialist assessments (including risk assessments) and manage patients on your caseload.
You will work both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, carrying out Consultant Psychiatrist and Approved Clinician duties.
Main duties of the jobFulfilling the Community Responsible Clinician responsibility for patients accepted into the service.Providing outpatient or community clinics and home visits.Undertaking statutory responsibilities under the MHA, MCA, and DoLS.Providing direct clinical work including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders.Participating in regular MDT meetings, CPA reviews, MAPPA, safeguarding, risk reviews, and providing clinical leadership.Conducting emergency home visits and liaising with forensic support services.Working for our organisationMersey Care is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving more than 1.4 million people across our region.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) is a newly commissioned service based at Hollins Park House in Warrington, serving patients with a learning disability and/or autism with forensic needs in Merseyside and Cheshire.
The SCFT provides preventative, reactive, and evidence-based interventions through specialist risk assessments, management, and therapeutic interventions.
Collaborating with in-patient services to reduce length of stay.Supporting step down and recovery in the community.Applying proactive risk management to enable service users to achieve their goals.Delivering offence-specific therapeutic interventions.Ensuring robust multi-agency involvement for public/community safety.The psychiatry role includes Approved Clinician / Responsible Clinician provision for individuals who are subject to Conditional Discharge or Community Treatment Orders.
Person specificationQualificationsFull GMC Registration or eligibility to be included on the register with a current licence to practise.Section 12 approval.Approved Clinical Status.MRCPsych or equivalent.Eligible for inclusion in Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT.Relevant Higher Degree or additional clinical qualifications.CCT in Psychiatry.ExperienceKnowledge and experience of assessing and treating individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.Experience treating individuals with forensic needs.Personal SkillsLeadership skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.Ability to manage time and prioritize clinical work.Excellent communication skills with patients, carers, and staff.Compassionate and approachable personality.KnowledgeUnderstanding of management skills required to function successfully as a Consultant.Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision.Understanding of Clinical Governance in NHS organizations.Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective.TransportHolds and will use a valid UK driving licence or provides evidence of proposed alternative.Academic Skills and Lifelong LearningConstructively working and leading a multidisciplinary team.Participation in continuous professional development and clinical audit.Please ensure you check the email account from which you apply for all correspondence.
