This post is a new position created to manage the increasing demand on the VR service.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the existing VR team to deliver a high-quality and timely service to the local population.
The candidate will have the opportunity to shape and contribute to the development of the service and will work closely with the current team of consultant colleagues, participating in a 1 in 10 (both weekday and weekend) on-call rota.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general ophthalmic and cataract service, and flexibility is required to meet the department's commitment to delivering efficient, safe, and high-quality patient care.
The post holder must have sub-specialty training in VR.
Applicants must have completed a substantial number of specialist VR procedures and demonstrate an excellent clinical quality record.
They should also be able to run the service efficiently and demonstrate competency in performing specialist procedures independently in theatre.
Applicants will need to demonstrate commitment to excellent teamwork with clinical colleagues, a willingness to utilise and develop clinical care pathways in the overall management of patients, and a positive attitude towards patient interactions.
The successful applicant will participate in outpatient activity, leading and managing both specialist VR and general ophthalmology clinics, be involved in preoperative management prior to surgery, and in all aspects of operative care for patients.
It is anticipated that the surgeon will spend the equivalent of two sessions in the operating theatre and three to four sessions a week in outpatient clinics, in addition to administrative duties.
S/he will work closely with clinical colleagues, nursing, and other allied health care staff to enhance the level of patient care at the Trust.
The final allocation of patient contact time, including theatre and clinics, will be agreed in discussion with the Clinical Director.
