Job summary An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester Hospital in the Acute Paediatrics team.
The model of care in the Children's Department is moving towards increasingly consultant-delivered care.
You would be joining a team of 12 consultants, which allows us to meet RCPCH Facing the Future and local acute care standards.
We are inviting applications for a Consultant in Acute Paediatrics with a special interest in Paediatric Cardiology.
This is a joint post working at Colchester Hospital, East Suffolk North Essex Foundation Trust and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge University Foundation Trust.
Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register or due to have completed CCT within six months of the interview.
Main duties of the job All consultants in the department have a continuing and individual responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and a general responsibility to provide, in conjunction with their colleagues, an effective Service to meet the needs of the local population, within the resources available.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee, the Lead Consultant and the Divisional Director/Department Service Manager.
The post consists of 10 programmed activities (PAs) which are split between Cambridge and Colchester.
The applicant will also take a proportional role in the 1:12 COTW rota on the childrens ward and the 1:8 (currently) cover on the neonatal unit if appropriate.
The successful applicant will undertake an amount of on call in Colchester, on a proportional basis, around 50% of the full time 1:12 ratio.
Outpatient clinics and other commitments are cancelled when COTW.
Morning duties will be cancelled when on duty in the evening.
The consultant will arrive at work at 1300 hours and take over on call duties following handover at 1630.

Team meeting- held on the 1st Monday of the month Cross cover of clinics as/ when required on 2nd and 4th of the month safeguarding peer review, continuous improvement meeting, MDT, Inpatient cardiology reviews On call (Colchester out of hours duties) included in the 10 PAs are as follows Tier 3 (Consultant) Rota Resident in hospital Rolling rota covered by 12 WTE consultants.
Consultant resident in hospital as follows Evenings - 1700-2200 Weekends - 0900 -1700 when COTW, 1700 2200 when on call Tier 3 Rota Non-resident on call Overnight 2200 - 0900 Person Specification Qualifications Essential MRCPCH or equivalent CCT/CESR or equivalent in paediatrics Paediatric cardiology (PEC) SPIN training or equivalent experience Desirable EACVI Certification in Congenital Heart Disease Echocardiography (ECHO CHD) Experience Essential Broad experience in general paediatrics and neonatal intensive care in the UK At least 12 months experience and training in a level 3, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit if neonatal interest, 6 months if not Neonatal interest (at ST4-8 or equivalent) 5 years at ST4-8 level (or equivalent) or sufficient time to gain Level 2 and Level 3 RCPCH competencies.
