Consultant in Paediatric Metabolic MedicineGreat Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation TrustGREAT ORMOND STREET LONDON WC1N 3JH Applications are invited for a full time Consultant post in Paediatric Metabolic medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity for a substantive 10 PA post (8 DCC / 2 SPA) to work in this unique and supportive environment within a busy children's hospital and we are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for Metabolic medicine to join our successful team at GOSH.
The Paediatric Metabolic Medicine Service is a tertiary referral unit providing emergency and elective management across the North Thames region in particular, but referrals are received from all over the South of England.
The Service also provides a national and international resource for the management of rare or complex paediatric metabolic conditions.
There will be a 1 in 7 weekday attending and 1 in 7 weeknight on-call commitment.
This is a non-resident post.
The postholder will be responsible, in conjunction with the other consultants in Metabolic Medicine for the supervision of the day to day management of Metabolic Medicine in-patients and the Clinical Research Facility (CRF).
Main duties of the jobClinical Duties
There will be a 1 in 7 weekday attending and 1 in 7 weeknight on-call commitment (including weekends).
This is a non-resident post.
The postholder will be responsible, in conjunction with the other consultants in Metabolic Medicine for the supervision of the day to day management of Metabolic Medicine in-patients.
During their attending week the consultant will, with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and Dietetics Team, coordinate the management of new patients detected from newborn screening (e.g.
PKU, MCADD, etc), deal with emergency referrals and e-mail and telephone communication/consultations.
The post holder will be expected to undertake two outpatient clinics per week and based on the needs of the department might need to cover the outreach clinics in Belfast.
In addition, the post holder will be expected to support the multidisciplinary clinics in rotation with the other consultants.
All consultants are expected to maintain their general metabolic skills, but they will be expected and supported to develop their own sub-speciality interest.
Ward work will include overseeing inpatient care on the Metabolic ward and the clinical research facility.
A number of patients in the metabolic service (in particular the Lysosomal Storage Disease (LSD service)) require Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
The post holder will work with BMT and other relevant services to ensure optimal pre and post (including long term follow up) care where relevant.
