Consultant In Old Age Psychiatry, Buckinghamshire

Job Summary We are looking for 3.3 WTE consultant psychiatrists to provide clinical leadership to the South Bucks OA CMHT. The posts have become available after previous postholders departed the service, and these substantive posts will replace agency locum cover. The post holders will work closely with consultant psychiatrist colleagues (total 3.3 WTE) within the team. The team base is at Saffron House, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Main Duties of the Job The South Bucks OA CMHT serves a total population of approximately 57,000 adults over the age of 65 and sees all patients in this age group with both functional and organic mental illness. The post holders will be expected to see patients in the community, out-patients (including memory clinic), and occasional liaison patients. The post-holders will undertake one outpatient clinic per week (maximum two new patients or up to five follow-up patients) and one Memory Assessment Service clinic per week (with the same maximum patient numbers). In addition, the post holders will be expected to provide clinical leadership to the wider CMHT. Oxford Health supports New Ways of Working for Consultant Psychiatrists.

Although this is a full-time post, we encourage candidates who are interested to work less than full time to apply as well.
We offer a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 for eligible successful candidates.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist's Guidelines) Approved clinician Status and Section 12( MHA) approval are essential. Candidates who are in the process of obtaining AC approval will be considered. Training and Clinical Experience Essential Higher specialist training in old age psychiatry (or dual training) in approved training post for a minimum of three years, equivalent training in another country, or previous consultant experience relevant to this post. CCT in Psychiatry; OR inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview; OR CESR. Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in this specialty. Experience of close collaborative work with social care and other agencies. Experience of working in a Memory Assessment Service. Skills and Knowledge Essential Ability to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework, and to share leadership responsibilities with senior colleagues of other professions. Ability to understand how organisations work most effectively. Commitment to active clinical governance. Ability to promote effective team working. Capacity to prioritise workload. Active participation in clinical audit. Commitment to interagency partnership working. Must have good skills in communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations. Good spoken and written English. Work collaboratively and effectively with a range of professionals. Must have interest in and commitment to people with mental health problems, and their carers. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
