Job summary Requiredto fill this new post within the Neonatal Department at the Leeds GeneralInfirmary This is an exciting opportunity towork with a dynamic team in one of the busiest neonatal services in the UK.Applications are invited for two Consultant Neonatologist posts at LeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Theregional Neonatal Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust is one of thelargest in the UK and has a combined capacity of 69 cots (30 intensivecare/high dependency).
The service is currently provided across two sites,Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital.
We have a strongtrack record in research and have a heavy emphasis on family Integrated Care.There are 1700 admissions per annum to the Neonatal Service which accepts bothin-utero and post-natal transfers for specialist services and ongoing care fromall over Yorkshire and Humber and often further afield.
The service is one ofonly two in the UK with all tertiary paediatric specialties includingcardiology, neurology and neurosurgery, hepatology, nephrology and paediatricsurgery.
All of the tertiary paediatric services are located in the LeedsChildrens Hospital, within Leeds General Infirmary situated in Leeds citycentre.
There are currently plans to centralise all of maternity and neonatalservices in a state of the art new build on the LGI site, alongside a new LeedsChildrens Hospital.
Main duties of the job Theduties of this post will be to provide consultant led clinical duties on theLeeds General Infirmary and St Jamess sites (6 in 16 weeks), alongside the 15other neonatologists.
On call duties are 1:6 weeknights (LGI or SJUH) and 1:6weekends (LGI or SJUH with some cross-cover weekends).
The neonatal on callrota is separate from paediatrics and is currently resident until midnight.
Thesuccessful applicant should possess MRCPH (or equivalent) and should beincluded on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time ofinterview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.
In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Youshould have established skills in Tertiary (level 3) Neonatal care and itsrelated specialties.
A strong commitment to undergraduateand postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

The service comprises onelevel 3 unit (NICU) at LGI and a combined low dependency comprising SCBU andTransitional Care at SJUH, each attached to a busy delivery suite.
The neonatalservice is one of the busiest in the country with 1700 admissions per year,providing 4000 intensive care days and a further 4200 high dependency care daysper year.
There are approximately 10,000 deliveries across the two sites.Currently both sites are covered by a single consultant over theweekend, from 1700 on Friday until 0830 Monday, and is split into 24 houron-calls between two consultants.
The advertised post is part of an expansionof the consultant team in order to provide dedicated, separate on call cover toboth sites.2.OBJECTIVES OF THE POSTToprovide weekday consultant cover and weeknight on call (1 in 6 alternatingsite) to the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmaryand the Local Neonatal Unit at St Jamess Hospital.Toprovide weekend consultant led care to the two regional neonatal units withinLeeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (1 in 6 weekends).Toprovide, in conjunction with the existing consultants, supervision of neonatalcare on the NICU, postnatal and transitional care wards.
This will requireworking on both neonatal units by rotation.Toassist in delivering the induction and training programme for junior doctors.To contribute to the effective training and clinical supervision of medicalstaff within the neonatal service.
Toliaise with the neonatal outreach team and community paediatic team provideplanned discharge and follow up of neonatal graduates.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential MB BS (or equivalent) MRCPCH or equivalent qualification Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.

Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
On the GMCs Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview.

Desirable Relevant higher degree.

Experience Essential Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Neonatal Medicine.
