We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.These are 3 substantive posts based at the Lister Hospital in StevenageThis is an excellent opportunity to join the team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
The successful candidates will jointly manage patients in a newly created 24-bedded general medical ward.This is the designated clinical area for managing patients with acute medical complex presentations, including often in association with known oncological/haematological malignancies.
Main duties of the job The post-holder will also be expected to provide named Consultant care to medical outliers on surgical wards during periods of increased in-patient activity.
During non-ward weeks, the post holders will deliver specialty outpatient clinics - this is flexible according to the post holders specialty training.
The core role will be delivering in-patient care on a 24 bedded ward jointly shared between 2 consultants with some medical outlier patient care commitments.
The patients will be a mix of GIM and those with ongoing oncology or haematology conditions presenting with inter-current illnesses.
Being able to lead in complex MDT discussions on ongoing care and making advanced care planning decisions will be essential.
The intention will be to have a 3 Consultant Team covering this clinical area with sessions available to deliver speciality OP work or sessions within acute medicine or a sessions as feasible working at Addenbrookes with the Infectious Disease Team.
There will be expectation to contribute to the Physician of the Day rota for unselected medical take on weekdays and weekends.

Please see attached job description which describes in full details the duties, responsibilities and reporting relationships of the advertising role Person Specification Previous Experience Essential Broad range of experience in acute and general medicine o Fully competent in the management of the acute medical take o Fully competent in the management of inpatients and MDT working Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice Desirable Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role Skills Essential Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation Qualifications/Training Essential Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register MRCP or qualification of an equivalent level Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment Evidence of being up to date and fit to practise, and aware of own training needs Desirable College Fellowship Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
