Job summary We are seeking a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) at Petersfield Hospital.
This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality psychiatric care across Petersfield and Bordon, working closely with a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving adult mental health outcomes.
You will manage a caseload of adults with diverse and complex mental health needs, offering clinical leadership and expertise to the team, including nurses, psychologists, and support workers.
With 6 Programmed Activities per week, this permanent post includes both direct clinical care and time for professional development.

Main duties of the job As a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care, assume Responsible Clinician duties, and lead clinical decision-making for complex cases.
Key tasks include managing assessments, formulating treatment plans, and supporting recovery-focused interventions.
You will work collaboratively within the CMHT, leading case discussions, supervising junior staff, and engaging in multi-disciplinary meetings.
The role involves PAs for direct clinical care and PAs for supporting professional activities, including CPD and service development.
Essential skills include strong communication, leadership, and experience in general adult psychiatry.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full Registration with the General Medical Council MRCPsych or recognised equivalent Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview.
CCT in general adult psychiatry.
Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Desirable Relevant Higher Degree , MD, PhD, MSc, or other additional clinical qualifications Liaison accreditation.
To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post Experience Essential Prior experience of general adult psychiatry Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant.
Prior experience in please add in any other essential clinical requirements.
Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
Desirable Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
Experience of crisis, inpatient, or community mental health team care for adults.
