The team has a Clinical Lead who is supported by the Urgent and Emergency Care Director and Operational Team.The Emergency Department (ED) is a Type 1 unit providing care for the acutely ill as well as self-referred minor injuries.
The department sees approximately 55,000 patients per year.
We are supported by in-patient teams from medicine, surgery, paediatrics and critical care.
There is a co-located GP out of hours and SDEC unit for direct patient streaming.Hours per week: 10 PA's (plus on call commitments 1:9) Main duties of the job Consultant in Emergency Medicine - Roles and responsibilitiesThe successful candidates will be expected to work flexibly to deliver high quality care with particular emphasis on the following:ClinicalWe prioritise direct patient care.
Consultants work clinical shifts across the week.
We assign two consultants per shift to provide cover - dividing responsibility into direct clinical care and Emergency Physician In Charge (EPIC) roles.
We define team roles to focus on senior front door presence and senior resuscitation and trauma roles.Best practice and clinical auditWe have a clear governance structure with a focus on patient safety and quality of care.
There are regular governance meetings.
We take part in national RCEM audits and have a portfolio of NIHR research - currently the best recruiting district general hospital in the region.Teaching and educational supervisionThe department has a strong focus on education - using traditional teaching, shop floor education and simulation to enhance whole team learning.
We teach medical students from Manchester University and are a host department for Buckingham Medical School.

For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint.
The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year's experience in terms of nature, type and level of role.
