Job summary To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the hospital.

Main duties of the job The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients: - To at all times, comply with the GMS's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time - To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times - On commencement to ensure completion of the Trust's Corporate Induction - To undertake duties as defined within the job plan and in agreement with the Clinical Lead - To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring our standard to deliver safe, quality care is sustained - To be responsible for the Clinical Management of all patients under your care.
- To provide Diabetes and Endocrinology specialist support to other inpatient medical teams - To participate with General Inpatient Medicine on-call rota - To contribute to Diabetes and Endocrinology MDTs - To work flexibly with colleagues to meet the needs of the service and achieve Trust and National targets - To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address any issues arising that may affect the services - To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes - To communicate with local GPs About us Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services and adult social care.
The Trust runs Torbay Hospital as well as five community hospitals,.
We have around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually.
We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.
We employ approximately 6,500 staff including frontline health and social care staff, such as nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, consultants, and physiotherapists who work in your home and from a range of different premises across Torbay and South Devon such as community hospitals and clinics.
We also have over 800 volunteers who make a difference each and every day to the people we care for.

Job description Job responsibilities Communication and working relationships Develop strong relationships with patients on caseload to ensure they understand the role and how to make the best use of the relationship - Develop excellent working relationships with the Diabetes and Endocrinology team but also the GP practices (all staff), team members of the Inpatient Wards, Specialities in the Long Term Conditions cohort and across the hospital, pharmacists, Devon CCG, voluntary and statutory agencies and team members - Have strong communication skills over multiple mediums virtual/telephone/written word/in person - Support doctors in training Planning and organisation Ensure that patient records are well maintained - Record action plans for all patients - Ensure all contact with patients is recorded appropriately on Trust systems - Ensure that there is a strong system to ensure patients receive planned support and actions are followed up - Be able to work flexibly and manage own time and workload Analytical and judgement - Ensure any concerns regarding a patient are escalated to the most appropriate manager and/or Clinical team/Clinician - Using professional judgement, ensure patients concerns are managed through to resolution by utilising existing patient pathways and potentially seeking to create new/enhanced pathways - Work within the parameters of professional registration - Able to own problems and get involved in the solutions - Ability to manage risk Responsibility and accountability - Act at all times in accordance with the GMCs Professional Code of Conduct.
- To keep up to date with clinical, professional, managerial developments and relevant NHS initiatives - To maintain and improve specialist knowledge - To maintain current registration with relevant professional bodies and comply with standards set by them - Demonstrate a high standard of clinical practice ensuring personal professional development.
Maintain an awareness of research findings and developments in professional practice - Provide support and advice to clients and relatives when faced with distressing situations.
Responsibility for patients and client care - Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, including professional and legal accountability and managing clinical risk for all aspect of own work and caseload Policy and service responsibility - Maintain and continue to improve knowledge and understanding of the Trust/Service including systems, policy and current issues, particularly to own area of work - Adhere to all Trust and departmental policies and procedures relating to role Responsibility for finance, equipment and other resources - Maintain the safe keeping of Trust property.
Any concerns regarding misuse shall be raised immediately with the Trust Counter Fraud Specialist - Ensure the proper use of the Trust resources, such as stationary, telephone usage photocopying and other consumables used within the course of business - Ensuring minimal waste and cost Responsibility for supervision, leadership and management - The post holder is expected to be a good example to other staff and use their experience to assist and guide others Person Specification Essential Essential Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice) CCT Specialist Registration in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, or its equivalent, or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
CESR.
Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
ATLS / APLS Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Knowledge and understanding of primary and secondary care Desirable Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
Post graduate qualifications, BSc, MSc, MD, PGCE.
Evidence of relevant research, publications or presentations.
Evidence of patient and colleague feedback.
Enquiring critical approach to work.
