Job summary We are looking for adynamic individual to join the Adult Acquired Cardiac Surgery Department at theLeeds General Infirmary.
This is a fulltime 10 PA appointment for a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with a sub-specialityinterest in aortic surgery within Cardio-Respiratory Clinical Service Unit atLeeds Teaching Hospital Trust (LTHT).
The department is partof a busy tertiary cardiac centre, offering both acquired and congenitalcardiology and cardiac surgical services to its surrounding districts.
Servicesinclude all aspects of specialist tertiary care of cardiac patients with the exceptionof transplantation.
The annual workload of the acquired cardiac surgicalservice includes over 1,000 operations and 3,000 outpatient consultations withover 5,000 catheterisations per year (diagnostic, therapeutic, PPCI,EP/ablation and TAVI procedures).
The team is highlymotivated and committed to developing excellent services for patients, and theexpectations of the multi-disciplinary team are high.
Work in an establishedcardiac unit alongside a team of adult surgeons with specialist interests inaortic and mitral surgery, the new appointment will have 1 - 2 all dayoperating sessions per week, one out-patient clinic and be expected to activelyparticipate in multi-disciplinary teaching and governance meetings.
The on-call responsibility will be a 1:7.This will be equivalent to a 10 PA job plan with DCC and SPAs.
Main duties of the job The successfulapplicant should possess FRCS (CTh) (or equivalent) and should be included onthe Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, ifcurrently within a training programme within the UK.
In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in Cardiac Surgery and a strong commitment to undergraduateand postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Financiallysustainable Job description Job responsibilities In relation to this post,this is a full time 10 PA appointment for a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with asub-speciality interest in aortic surgery within Cardio-Respiratory ClinicalService Unit.There are currently sixsubstantive consultants working full-time within the service.
All consultants are based at the YorkshireHeart Centre on the Leeds General Infirmary site.
There will be all-dayoperating sessions per week.
It isexpected that the surgeon will work flexibly to organise to cover the theatreschedule in order to fulfil the required operating sessions per year accordingto the locally agreed SLA 63 operation sessions over the 42-week workingyear.The YHC serves apopulation of million for cardiac surgery and specialised cardiology.
Thereis a strong research base with a desire to use and evaluate newtechnology.
There are active teachingand research links with Leeds School of Medicine and the University of Leeds,both well situated on adjacent sites.2.OBJECTIVESOF THE POSTTodeliver care to patients within Cardiac at the LGIOut-patient clinicsSupervision of patients On-call rota 1 in 7Contribute to SpecialistMulti-disciplinary team meetingsTo link with consultant colleagues inother relevant site specialist teams working closely with Cardiology, Radiologyand Vascular Surgery.Towork with colleagues in Cardiac Surgery to deliver acute on call (1 in 7).
Thisincludes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normalworking hours.
Mentoring and support will be provided, including out of hours,on call and weekend working.To contribute to research, teaching,and new developments within Cardiac Surgery.
The post holder will be encouragedto facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on goingin the department.
Person Specification Experience Essential Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Cardiac surgery with an appropriate sub specialist interest.
Specifically, he/she must demonstrate higher training, experience and competence in Cardiac surgery with an appropriate sub specialist interest.
Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Requirements Essential Understanding of current issues in the NHS.

*Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
*Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.
CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.
Desirable Attendance at recognised management course.
Qualifications Essential FRCS CTh (or equivalent).
CCT with subspeciality accreditation in Cardiac Surgery (or within six months of same) or equivalent qualification.
Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Desirable Higher degree MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit Essential Should have completed a recognised training programme in cardiothoracic surgery leading to CCST/entry to the specialist register.
Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
