Job summary We are looking to recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics with an interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to join our dynamic and friendly team.
Daytime work will include Chesterfield Birth Centre cover and theatre work and you will join the consultant general non-resident on call rota, supporting the resident juniors and the middle grade who cover emergency theatres and obstetric services.
Support in our new, state of the art Emergency Department whilst in Resus is expected.
As a successful applicant you will be joining an established team, comprising of Consultant Anaesthetists and Intensivists, Associate Specialists, Trust Specialty Doctors and F1- ST7 doctors in training.
The Critical Care & Anaesthetic Department incorporates Theatre Services, ITU, HDU, Department of Pain Management, and forms part of the Surgical Specialties Division.

Job description Job responsibilities Main Responsibilities To work flexibly to provide service between Anaesthesia and Critical Care Work with the wider MDT team to maintain and improve patients pathways through our Division.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical record keeping using the Trusts electronic systems.
Play an active part in the training and supervision of medical staff in junior and non-training grades and the development of support staff, supporting and leading the delivery of education for trainee medical staff and medical students.
Participate effectively in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance.
Engage with requirements for Continuing Professional Development in accordance with guidelines set down by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
Leadership, Management & Service Development Undertake evaluation and monitoring of clinical practice incorporating evidence-based principles and suitable outcome measures.
Engage with the Divisional and Trust business planning processes and wider service development as required.
Work collaboratively with the Divisional Senior Team to take an active role in the management of the Department.
Work with colleagues to play a full part in developing and implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles that are fit for the future.
Person Specification PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Essential FRCA or equivalent Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise.
CCT (or equivalent) with entry on Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or within 6 months of anticipated CCT /CESR (CP) date at the time of interview Desirable ALS, ATLS, APLS or other recognised life support course MOET, or equivalent, facilitator Membership of the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association, or equivalent EXPERIENCE Essential Wide general experience within the specialty.
Evidence of experience within chosen area of special interest, to comprise at least 3 months post fellowship training in Obstetric Anaesthesia Evidence of ongoing CPD, audit and knowledge of Clinical Governance Understanding of management structure within the NHS Desirable Experience of working within the NHS throughout the UK or abroad to facilitate a wide experience base Experience of teaching other health professionals Evidence of involvement in service development COMMUNICATION SKILLS Essential communicate effectively with multiprofessional colleagues to ensure a professional relationship Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, nurses, and other staff groups Caring attitude towards the patient Desirable Motivation skills, leadership skills and flexibility FURTHER TRAINING Essential Extensive experience in critical care medicine Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care in wider scope of anaesthetic practice, including paediatric and obstetric patients Desirable Skills / accreditation in bedside echocardiography and point of care ultrasound Experience / training in acute inpatient pain management Experience / training in anaesthetic pre-op assessment SPECIAL SKILLS/APTITUDES Essential Active consistent engagement with clinical audit / quality improvement Regular commitment to continuing and relevant medical education Clear understanding of NHS management structures Honesty and integrity High professional standards Excellent professional judgement Good organisational skills Commitment to team working Excellent written and spoken English Flexibility in a changing work environment Desirable Implementing evidence-based change to improve patient care Evidence of leadership in anaesthesia/critical care Significant involvement in clinical research Presentations at regional and national meetings OTHER FACTORS Essential Quality/audit project experience Experience of participation in CPD Basic IT skills Organisational ability Reliability and punctuality Desirable Previous experience of using online patient record system , SystmOne Member of a medical indemnity organisation
