Job summary Applications are invited for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team within the Emergency Assessment Unit at Colchester Hospital.
Our unit has been at the forefront in improving the safety and quality of patient care within the Trust, and is looking to massively expand our capacity in providing same day emergency and short stay care.
The Trust is offering on top of a worked 11 PA job plan with the option of more PA's added depending on the candidate's situation, and will be reduced appropriately for someone wishing to work 10PA's.
A further specialist interest will also be welcomed, and the sessional allocation considered in a case by case basis.
The job plan is expected to consist of Programmed Activities (PAs) and the exact details of job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate after their appointment.
Main duties of the job ClinicalThe key duties and responsibilities of the post will be: Clinical and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Emergency Assessment UnitOrganising medical admissions through the Emergency Assessment Unit, assigning patients for continuing inpatient care, short stay beds on the Unit or discharging from the EAU directlyTo develop joint protocols for the management of emergency medical admissions with the nursing team and clinical colleaguesDevelop standards, procedures and robust systems on EAU to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient care from the point of entry onto EAU to admission or discharge from EAUAgree and ensure clear processes for handover and specialty triage from EAUSupervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will have opportunity to learn on a one to one basis on both formal and informal ward rounds and also on ad hoc basis throughout the day An active part in educational programmes for junior medical staff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical audits relevant to the needs of the Assessment UnitTo teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriateIssuing of advice to GPs on suitability of patients for admission to hospital About us One of the largest Trust's in East Anglia, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) provide hospital and community health services to people living across a wide geographical area.
