West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS TrustThere is an exciting opportunity for a Care of Elderly Consultant to join West Hertfordshire NHS Trust, a hospital which is currently undergoing redevelopment with the aim of a brand new hospital in the next few years.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated professional with a specialist interest to join our team of substantive consultants, working core hours from 9 am to 5 pm and 1 week in 3 covering the care of elderly medicine on call (optional past 5pm).
This role offers a unique chance to contribute to the enhancement and development of elderly care within a busy but well supported environment.

£7,000 golden hello payment for new recruits to be paid in 12 equal instalments£12k recruitment and retention fee year 1, 2 & 3 (paid in equal monthly instalments) (new recruits and existing consultants)Successful candidates will also be eligible for a relocation allowance in excess of £12,000 (if required)Main duties of the jobThe ideal candidate is someone with a passion for care of elderly medicine and service development, working with our community partners to ensure patients in community rehab wards continue to receive excellent clinical care and reduce length of stay, maintaining patient flow and supported discharges into the community.
It is important that the candidate can work within a team to provide holistic care to their patients and support the greater MDT and community teams working with them.

Main duties include performing a daily consultant ward round, leading MDTs, and educating resident doctors working 9am-5pm.
There will be a geriatric on-call commitment which will be a 1 week in 3 with TOIL or an increase in PA given to compensate for this, the hours of which are 1:00pm to 9:00pm (can be discussed further at interview).
The ideal candidate would also be able to contribute to service development and work closely with our community colleagues to ensure patients continue to receive excellent care and are discharged from community beds safely.
