Consultant Gastroenterologist - NutritionUniversity Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)The department of gastroenterology of University Hospitals Sussex is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic gastroenterologist colleague with sub-specialty interest in nutrition to work.
This will complement our existing team of 11 consultants.
Our close-knit and enthusiastic team are passionate about delivering high quality and innovative gastroenterology care across all sub-specialties and would welcome interest from potential candidates.
The post holder will work predominantly at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and also support services in The Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.
You will join us during an exciting period in our organisation's evolution following the recent mergers that created University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust, now the fifth biggest Trust in England.
University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust also hosts Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
The Royal Sussex County Hospital is also a training site for the regional Endoscopy Training Academy, founded in 2022 within our Trust.
Main duties of the jobTo support the department of Gastroenterology in providing outpatient clinics and endoscopic procedures within Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital Hayward's Heath.
The posts will be expected to work across both sites dependent upon clinical need to support outpatient clinics, endoscopy and reviews of Gastroenterology inpatients.
The post will include full participation in the endoscopy out of hours on-call rota and the Gastroenterology ward rota.

Job responsibilitiesOutpatient services in University Hospitals Sussex at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.The appointee with specialist interest in nutrition would support the excellent nutrition teams within the trust, including specialist outpatient clinics and the nutrition ward round teams.Endoscopy provision predominantly diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as GI bleeding therapeutics; other therapeutic skills and interests would also be welcomed.Rotational commitment to the provision of care on our gastroenterology inpatient unit in Royal Sussex County Hospital.Rotational commitment to the out of hours GI bleed rota and weekend gastroenterology inpatient unit.For these fixed term posts, the department would be happy to support any sub-speciality interests of an enthusiastic candidate which complemented the existing consultant body.We would expect the appointed candidate to share in the cohesive, professional, and patient-centred approach of the existing department.Person SpecificationClinical Skills & ExperienceoJAG accredited diagnostic and therapeutic upper/lower endoscopy.oUnderstanding of clinical risk management.KnowledgeoBreadth of experience in and outside specialty.Organisation & PlanningoExperience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.oUnderstanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints.oEvidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended.Teaching SkillsoEvidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.oRecognised teaching qualification.Academic & ResearchoEvidence of participation in audit.Research experience.Publications.Prizes and honours.Career Progression & Personal AttributesoEvidence of participation in audit.Experience QualificationsoFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice.oCCT in Gastroenterology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC.Disclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
