Applied Ecology Ltd (AEL) is an independent ecological consultancy originally established in 2005. We have offices in Cambridge and Glasgow, but operate throughout the UK, providing robust, pragmatic and solution-focused ecological expertise to support a broad range of sectors. We work on behalf of a large range of clients including commercial and residential developers, planning consultants, architects, larger environmental consultancies, utility companies, statutory agencies, planning authorities and private individuals. We are a CIEEM Registered Practice.
The opportunity… AEL has openings in its Glasgow office for Consultant grade ecologists. These would be excellent roles for dedicated, hard-working and motivated ecologists who are open to new challenges and who want to increase their knowledge and skills sets. You will be providing support to our Senior and Principal Consultants in the delivery of a diversity of project work across Scotland. Tasks will depend on the existing skills set of the individual, but along with a variety of training and shadowing opportunities would likely include:
Assisting with Preliminary Ecological Appraisals Desk studies Protected species surveys Mitigation licence execution Data analysis About you… You are likely to have at least a year of post-graduate (or equivalent) relevant experience under your belt, and be ready for the challenge of guided and/or independent project execution, with both fieldwork and reporting responsibilities. We are more interested in well-rounded naturalists than qualifications per se, and frequently make appointments based on skills not necessarily evidenced through formal qualifications. A full UK driving licence and eligibility to live and work in the UK are essential.
What we can offer… We offer flexible working arrangements and our Consultant grade salary band is £24,250 – £31,000 per annum, pro-rata-ed for those preferring part time. Our standard annual leave entitlement is 25 days per annum plus bank holidays (pro-rata-ed if part time), and we auto-enrol into the NEST pension scheme.
There is no formal closing date for these positions; applications will be assessed when received and candidates invited for interview accordingly. For employment commencement in early 2025, earlier submissions will therefore be at an advantage.
