University Hospitals Bristol and Weston provide a NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service in the South West (CYPGS).
We are looking for an experienced trainer and educator of health care professionals in relation to the psychological aspects of this specialist field of children's health.
This senior role will be to work with the Clinical Director and Clinical Lead to develop, implement and maintain proactive and responsive training programmes for the large multi-professional CYPGS team (clinical and non-clinical).
We expect the staff in this service to experience exceptional pressure and anticipate that training and education will help the team manage this.
The senior role will also involve leadership of the internal CYPGS trainers and may include an element of clinical service delivery at a senior level.
This will provide a balanced yet challenging job plan for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with a proven track record for delivery of innovative and effective training programmes in this field.
Main duties of the jobAdvise the Clinical Director, Clinical Lead and Consultants within the CYPGS about training and continuing professional development for the staff of the CYPGSDevelop and lead the delivery of CYPGS training with the senior leadership and CYPGS trainersDelegated via the Clinical Lead: management and coordination of training projects and policies for internal and external trainingPresent training methods and outcomes locally, regionally and nationallyDetailed job description and main responsibilitiesFor a more detailed job description, main responsibilities, and person specification, please refer to the job description document attached to this vacancy.
Person specificationQualifications and trainingDoctorate in clinical psychology/counselling psychology or equivalentCurrent registration as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions CouncilTraining appropriate theoretical models for use in the postManagement/leadership trainingKnowledge and ExperienceKnowledge and Extensive experience of working as a Clinical Psychologist providing NHS training services.Extensive experience of providing training in relation to CYP GenderExtensive experience working within health care to provide large training events, public speaking and presenting data at professional meetings.Extensive experience of formal teaching / presentation sessions to health and other professionalsDemonstrable knowledge of strategic principles relating to Equality Diversity and InclusionKnowledge and experience of use appropriate theoretical approaches to working with staff groups and patients and the evidence base for the relevant approachesExperience of providing senior leadership and clinical services within a specialist health settingExperience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area (training and professional development).Record of publications in either peer reviewed, academic or professional journals/books, and conference presentationsAdvanced communication skills.
The ability to provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information to and from staff and organisations in a culturally appropriate manner in highly emotive situations.This will include the ability to provide complex psychological information to staff in an accessible manner.Skills and AbilitiesAbility to generate and teach on systemic and individual psychological formulations and triage/deliver brief interventions based on applying psychological theories and models to the complex information generated by the patient and systems as appropriate.Advanced communication skills with the ability to communicate and teach on highly complex and sensitive information regarding patients and their families in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner in highly emotive situations.
This will include the ability to provide complex psychological information to staff in an accessible manner.Ability to access, record and manage information and data pertaining to the work undertaken in notes, databases and electronic records as required.Ability to prioritise and manage available time for clinical, managerial and professional activities effectively and safelyAble to travel as requiredWell-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groupsAbility to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.We hope that you will decide to join us and become part of this exciting journey, helping us to shape our future together.
