Job summary Come and join a group of six cardiologists, to support a new CTCA service and in due course a CMR service.
We are committed to maintaining a work life balance so whether just starting your consultant career or already an experienced Consultant come and talk to us.
This job is primarily in CTCA and general cardiology but another subspecialty interest in addition to CTCA could be accommodated.
If you've ever dreamt of a place which brings together the convenience of living in a big city with the lifestyle associated with a home in a rural idyll, Herefordshire is the place for you.
Herefordshire lies in the south west of the West Midlands, bordering Wales.
It is a rural county.
The population is expected to grow to 193,600 by 2026.
Just under half of the population live in villages and rural areas, just under a third (30 per cent) of the people live in Hereford City, and the rest (22 per cent) live in the market towns.
The City of Hereford and the five market towns offer a wide variety of lifestyles blending the traditional with the modern.
This is a county of contrasts where walkers enjoy breath-taking views, adrenalin seekers rave about our rock faces and river rapids, and connoisseurs of fine food enthuse about the quality of our locally grown produce.
Cycling, canoeing, climbing and kayaking sit neatly alongside theatres, art galleries, museums, festivals and more.
There's something for everyone.
Main duties of the job The new development of a 7th Consultant post is possible because of a new diagnostic center being currently built that will include CTCA (Canon Aquilion SP 160 scanner).
The build will be complete by August 2025 and is 1 mile from the County Hospital.
One day a week will be dedicated to that service with another day of sub-specialty activity that could be more CTCA, but could include stress echocardiography (working with Dr Hudson) or myoview (service run in conjunction with Dr Gill Rowe, Consultant Radiologist) or another subspecialty interest.
There is the possibility of some CMR in conjunction with Worcester, but no regular scanning slots could be offered.
This appointment will allow a cardiologist of the week model on a 1 in 7 basis with all other activity cancelled during that week allowing proactive troubleshooting of cardiology problems on the wards and in The ED during normal working hours.
That week would include a Saturday and Sunday morning CCU round and ward round with referrals also seen (extra contractual if agreed and either remunerated by negotiated pay or time off in lieu).
To enable consistent seven day working annual leave cannot be taken during the wards week unless by a direct agreed swap with a colleague.
General cardiology on call will be on a fixed weekday (not covered prospectively) and 1 in 7 at weekends (Friday through Sunday).
A clinic workload will be either 11 follow up patients (telephone clinic) or 3 new and 6 follow up patients (face to face).
