Job summary The Department of Anaesthesia gained ACSA accreditation in 2021.
The Critical Care Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary has 8 level 3 and 8 level 2 beds.
The beds are used flexibly to support the high risk elective and emergency surgical specialities including vascular, as well as critically ill medical patients.
This is a busy unit that on average runs at greater than 85% occupancy and admits over 1000 patients each year.
We operate within the West Yorkshire Critical Care Operational Delivery Network.
Main duties of the job This post is to provide anaesthetic services for the variety of surgical specialities as outlined in the timetable.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals caters for all surgical specialities except major cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and transplant surgery.
Emergency Duties The Department of Anaesthetics has two Consultant Anaesthetists on call each night, one to cover the Critical Care Unit and one to cover acute theatre work and Obstetrics.
Clinical Duties The post holder willmaintain the highest clinical standards in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
Work closely with colleagues to share the provision of Anaesthetic advice to all inpatients.
To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the service.
To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
Teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
It is expected that the appointee would provide flexible cover for annual leave.
A commitment to audit and clinical governance and risk management is mandatory.

The post holder will support the General Anaesthesia services within Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
