We have instructions from our City client, a full service global law firm with deep niche and sector experience (and with a presence in more than thirty countries), which is looking to recruit a 2-5 PQE solicitor to join the Competition & Trade team.The team:The Competition, EU and Trade team provides strategic advice and representation on national and global matters on all areas of Competition and International Trade law, as well as foreign investment controls.
The team regularly handles the most complex behavioural and investigatory work (civil and criminal), as well as any ensuing litigation.The practice is very broad and areas of expertise include cartel investigations, merger control and joint ventures; distribution arrangements; export control and sanctions; international trade law proceedings and negotiations; national regulation of foreign investment (including CFIUS reviews); State aid and EU funding issues; procurement challenges, anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations and wider EU law and regulatory compliance issues.
With lawyers throughout Asia, Europe and the US, the group delivers a seamless, one-stop legal service.The team is growing and we have an opportunity for an experienced competition and trade lawyer to the join the team.Role and key responsibilities:The team has ambitious growth plans and needs to find the right individual to help to capitalise on the increasing opportunities which the firm is seeing from its international client base.The new candidate will be responsible for relationships with key clients and for mandates and to also work closely with all UK Competition partners, as well as partners from offices outside UK.Skills and experience:2-5 years PQE, with a breadth of experience gained in a recognised Competition practice.You will be used to playing an active role on complex, high value competition and international trade matters and be able to work independently when required and have had plenty of direct exposure to clients, counsel and experts.You will have experience of a range of Competition and international Trade matters.You will have exposure to business development activities and a good understanding of how to win work and an ambition to expand this part of the role.Key Competencies:You will have excellent drafting skills and a good understanding of the principles of competition economics.
You will have strong academics; a post-graduate qualification in the field is an advantage.To be successful, you will need to be able to operate at a fast pace in a vibrant environment.
You will have strong communication skills to build effective relationships with existing and new clients and will be able to cross-sell clients to other teams or practice groups.You will be a team player and will be keen to invest time in all aspects of the business.
You will understand the importance of the culture of the team and contribute positively to it.You will help to drive business development and will strive to understand the client's needs and bring commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to working with clients.
