Community Maternity Support Worker

Job summary There is the exciting opportunity to join the Mid YorkshireTeaching Trusts Maternity department as a maternity support worker.
TheMaternity Support Worker (MSW) undertakes duties in a maternity setting, underthe direction and supervision of a registered midwife, for which midwiferytraining and registration are not required.
MSWs complement the care thatmidwives provide to women and babies.
This will be a community-based post,meaning you will liaise with a team of midwives daily before taking yourworkload.
This work may include home visits and supporting in the communityhubs and GP clinics.
As a Maternity Support Worker, you will perform routineobservations and checks on both mum and baby, discuss physical and emotionalconcerns, give evidence-based advice and guidance, and refer to the Midwiferyteam if you have any worries or concerns.
You will be supported to complete aMaternity Support Worker competency package which is a great opportunity tocome and work in a team, developing your own skills both clinical andcommunication alongside.

Job description Job responsibilities To assist the Midwife in the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care of women babies and familiesUndertake basic care planning and decision making regarding how care is delivered, within the sphere of practice.
(I think that we need to add under the direction of a Registered midwife/ Registered Nurse)Provide leadership and supervision as required to Health Care Support workers, delegating tasks as appropriate.To provide a range of clinical duties such as observations, phlebotomy.

Adhering to the data protection act.Assist with consultation and examinations as required, within your sphere of practice.Collection of specimens and accurate labelling.
Discard / dispatch / transport of specimens safely.Escort and direct patients to and from other areas.Participate in general cleaning and housekeeping duties, including handling and disposal of soiled and infected linen.
Observing infection control policies with regard to hand washing and safe disposal of sharps.
