5 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: In Tower Hamlets delivering environmental improvements is complex because we have one of the highest population densities and fastest growing populations in the country increasing number of visitors and workers across the borough and more than 80 per cent of residential properties are flats.
With growth in housing people business and visitors we are producing more waste that needs to be reduced reused or recycle.
The recycling contamination rate is high at around 27%.
To work as part of a team to undertake activities which drive an increase in community engagement and behaviour change to improve local environmental quality waste reduction waste prevention reuse recycling and composting.
The work will predominately focus on estates and blocks of flats.
Key Duties/Accountabilities Deliver engagement interventions which may include incentive schemes doorknocking events and stalls to drive behaviour change motivate and empower residents to reduce rubbish and improve recycling performance.
Engage with existing community groups and networks including TRAs and facilitate promotion recycling and waste reduction through their channels.
Empower and support caretaking/property management teams through education and strengthened communication about recycling and best practice for dealing with issues on estates.
Actively contribute to the councils priorities and outcomes in a way that promotes a one organisation approach.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues stakeholders and communities to ensure the council and the directorate strategic priorities are effectively implemented.
Promote equality among all staff and ensure that services are delivered in a nondiscriminatory way that is inclusive of all disadvantaged groups.
Essential Experience Required: Experience of clerical administrative and office systems and procedures is essential.
Experience of waste management services and recycling schemes is essential.
Experience of working with a range of partners including parents carers families and schools is essential.
Experience of working in a recycling or waste management environment is essential.
Essential Qualification Required: General level of education qualification is essential.
Additional information to note: Working hours: 35 hours per week.
The role requires a DBS check.
The closing date for this position is 10 th October 2024.
