Co-op was founded in 1844 and 180 years on, their purpose is more relevant than ever: they exist to meet the needs of their member-owners and everything they do is to build more value for them every day.
They are not owned by shareholders or wealthy individuals - their 6 million members own them and have a say in how their business is run, including picking their leaders from the membership to represent their interests on the Board and the National Members' Council.
As a Member Nominated Director, you'll be one of four directors directly elected by the member-owners.
The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of their Co-op and is accountable to their members for the performance of the businesses.

As Co-op enter the second UN International Year of Co-ops and with a government commitment to double the co-operative sector, it's a really exciting time for them to demonstrate the power of co-operation and a different way of doing business.
To be considered for the role, you'll need to have been a Co-op Member-Owner for at least three years and have spent £500 or more with Co-op in 2024.
This membership criteria may be waived for very strong candidates.
Co-op are looking for passionate member-owners who are inclusive and credible leaders with a strong commercial track record and growth mindset.
You'll need to demonstrate a clear commitment and understanding of co-operative business models and their unique values and principles.
The Co-op was founded on principles of equality and equity, and it continues to lead the way on social mobility, inclusion and belonging, so all directors are expected to champion and be a role model for equality and diversity too.
If you're successful in their selection process, you'll join a small number of candidates on their election ballot.
If you're elected, you'll be appointed after their Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May 2025 for a three-year term.
The closing date for applications is 31 January 2025.
This time, there are two Member Nominated Director seats up for election.
