Job summary Here at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, the East Anglian Regional Radiation Protection Service (EARRPS), are currently looking for a Band 5 Clinical Technologist .
This is a replacement post to support the continued delivery of a wide range of radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics services to our diverse range of NHS and private clients in East Anglia.EARRPS promote systems of work that ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff who come into contact with radiation generators ( X-ray equipment), sealed or unsealed radioactive materials, and sources of non-ionising radiation ( lasers, UV).
Our clients include various acute and community NHS Trusts, dental practices, veterinary practices, schools and research laboratories.
EARRPS also runs an HSE Approved Dosimetry Service (the Cambridge Personal Radiation Monitoring Service), an HSE recognised RPA Body, and an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.We welcome applications from registered clinical technologists, although candidates without registration would be considered at an appropriate pay point and banding in line with Annex 21.
Main duties of the job You should have excellent communication skills to support work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds.
You will be required to travel throughout the region and should have a passion for service delivery and willingness to engage in multidisciplinary teaching and training.
You will assist in the provision of high quality radiation protection services to users of x-ray systems, sealed and unsealed radioactive sources, and non-ionising radiation.
This includes the intercomparison and calibration of radiation detectors, performance of quality assurance tests on x-ray imaging equipment, and advising customers on compliance with regulatory requirements in relation to radiation safety.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential BSc or Graduate Diploma (or equivalent) in Clinical Technology, Healthcare Science, Medical Physics (or similar).
Registration as a Clinical Technologist (a candidate working towards registration may however be appointed on Agenda for Change Annex 21 until registration is obtained) Desirable Radiation physics component to degree level.
Experience Essential Experience of radiation safety aspects of work with ionising radiation, radioactive materials or non-ionising radiations.
Experience in the use of testing equipment employed to measure the safety and performance of x-ray imaging equipment and in interpreting results.
Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
Experience of being able to interact with a range of staff from a variety of backgrounds.
Desirable Experience of working with and calibrating a range of radiation monitors.
Experience of working within a Quality Management System such as ISO9001:2015.
Knowledge Essential Understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines.
[ IRR17, IR(ME)R, IPEM guidelines etc.].
Understanding of radiation physics and patient and staff risks arising from ionising radiation exposure.
Desirable Understanding of techniques employed to measure the performance and radiological safety of state of the art imaging equipment.
Skills Essential Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
Well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of other professionals.
Well developed computing skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office software to set up documents and spreadsheets, extract information, calculate results and prepare reports.
Able to exercise initiative when dealing with issues within own area of competence.
Good organisational skills, attention to detail, self motivated and able to work to deadlines.
Manual dexterity: ability to make accurate measurements using sophisticated testing equipment.
Able to travel as required for the role.
