Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Stroke

Job summary We are looking for a clinical specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke Team.
As well as providing day to day clinical input this person will work closely with other members of the team to improve the quality and volume of rehabilitation we provide on our stroke unit.
This person will also be a role model for other Occupational Therapists working at the RUH and aspire others to help shape the identity of the profession.There will be scope to explore Advanced Clinical Practice (aligned to the neuro rehabilitation credential) if the successful candidate is interested in driving the profession forwards.This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with Consultants, ACPs, other AHPs, Nurses and operational teams to deliver high standard clinical care centering around rehabilitation.

Please contact Scott Buxton on Main duties of the job You will be part of a service which supports people who have had, or are living with the consequences of stroke.
This role will be mainly based on the acute stroke unit however will provide input across multiple clinical areas including: the emergency department, admission areas, inpatient specialty wards and the community.
You will work independently as well as being part of the MDT.There will be expectation that this role will support the operational delivery of the service and contribute to the operational responsibilities of the therapies department.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training Essential Qualifications & Training Attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical fields HCPC reg Desirable Membership of own Professional Body Involvement in relevant Special Clinical Interest Groups Knowledge & Experience Essential Advanced knowledge of broad range of conditions in specialist area Knowledge of national service guidelines and own professional guidelines, especially those related to stroke, neurology, care of the elderly and dementia care Demonstrates awareness of NHS targets for acute trusts and NHS development plans Desirable Experience supervising AHPs from other professions Involvement in audit, research and understanding quality issues Values Essential Values and respects others, treats everyone as an individual, is non-judgemental Motivated to be genuinely kind and caring Helps and co-operates with colleagues Willing to learn, open to change Specific Skills Essential To be experienced in performing highly specialist assessments and treatments with patients with a variety of specific conditions relevant to the specialty area To remain updated with professional and evidencebased practice and new research Ability to co-ordinate clinical management of AHP staff Desirable Experience in clinical risk Management Physical Skills & Effort Emotional Effort Essential Demonstrate ability to work under pressure To carry out assessments and treatments of patients for several periods with moderate to intense physical effort whilst carrying out concurrent activities Demonstrate flexibility to meet demands of the role To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and distress caused by pain, cognitive impairment, physical impairment or other cause
