Role Summary Clinical Scientist (Microbiology, Agenda for Change Band 7) Full time (part time will be considered) We are delighted to be able to recruit to a Clinical Scientist to work within the Clinical Microbiology department (Exeter site) of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust "RDUH").
You must be a HCPC registered STP Scientist (or Biomedical Scientist nearing completion of STP within the current academic year).

More detail about the role The Department of Microbiology provides a comprehensive Microbiology service to the RDUH Trust and local Population across Northern and Eastern Devon.
The Department employs approximately staff across two laboratories based at North Devon District Hospital and Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
The department provides a comprehensive diagnostic bacteriology, mycology, serology/virology and molecular microbiology service and processes in excess of , specimens per annum.
The service operates /7 including weekends and overnight cover is provided by an on-call service.
The Microbiology department eastern site is situated on the edge of Dartmoor, in the city of Exeter with easy access to the M5 corridor and excellent transport links to the open countryside and Devon coastline.
There is an on-site restaurant, crèche facilities and a choice of coffee/tea outlets.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Scientist with lab and project management skills and a high degree of self-motivation to join the team.
This role is for those who have completed the STP or are due to complete within this academic year (please note: the latter will have pay annexed until completion or STP and MSc).
This is a hybrid role which includes both playing an active role within the clinical diagnostics (Biomedical Scientist) team, as well as scientific research and development (R&D).
For the diagnostics element you will be required to obtain and maintain competencies in a number of core Microbiology benches and in order to process and interpret Microbiology diagnostic samples and validate results within scope of practice.
The R&D aspects of the role will be guided by the senior management team and will evolve over time.
Duties to include (but not limited to): review of the suitability of test repertoire; validation of new methodologies and technologies; repatriate referred tests; undertake projects to review/improve the clinical efficacy, efficiency or cost-benefits of diagnostic testing; lead or assist in the introduction of new tests (including training, risk assessments, development of SOPs and where relevant, published literature.
Liaising and relationship management with key stakeholders is a crucial element of the role, including laboratory staff, managers, consultants, universities, specialist laboratories and research centres and private customers.
Working as an integral part of the laboratory team you will help to deliver a high level of service quality to all service users.
We are seeking a candidate who is highly motivated, driven and a self-starter with a passion for R&D and evidence-based decision-making.
This role may be for you if you have completed (or nearing completion of) the Scientist Training Programme and are confident, friendly and outgoing.
Strong communication and organisational skills, and an acute attention to detail are needed.
You will also rotate throughout the Microbiology department, and require the ability to work under pressure and work well within a team.
The department has achieved UKAS accreditation to ISO and is an IBMS approved training laboratory.
Working Pattern: Current Laboratory opening hours are 8am to 6pm.
Core hours are from : to : Monday to Friday hours per week but would consider part time candidates).
This post may also require participation in the Microbiology weekend and on-call service and any in-house shift system if service requires.
