Job overview Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band specialist nurse in the Oxfordshire Children's Diabetes Service.
The service looks after all children and young people with diabetes in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas, currently around up to the age of years.
The multi-disciplinary team is based at the Oxford Children's Hospital, John Radcliffe site, with clinics both in Oxford and at the Horton Hospital, Banbury.
Approximately % of the children/young people use insulin pumps and % of families use continuous glucose monitoring.
The dedicated multi-disciplinary team works tirelessly to improve the quality of life of children and young people with diabetes, while optimising the best possible individual management of the condition.The post holder will provide specialist nursing advice and education to a caseload of children and young people of all ages as named nurse, with support from the nursing team and wider MDT.
The caseload all attend the John Radcliffe site and live in the western part of the county.The role requires travel to patient's homes and schools, sharing expert knowledge.
The post requires excellent interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to continued personal development.
Main duties of the job The post holder will provide specialist nursing advice and education to a caseload of children and young people of all ages as named nurse.
The post holder will be expected to take part in all education activities for children, young people and their families from diagnosis onwards.
This will include in patient ward management, education at diagnosis, follow up multi-disciplinary clinics, home visits, school visits, group and one-to-one on-going education.
The role may include training for ward staff in all aspects of diabetes management and teaching student nurses from Oxford Brookes University.
