Job summary Clinical Research Fellow in Fetal And Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia (Fnait) The clinical research fellowship is aimed at a registrar in specialist training who seeks a three-year period of full-time research.
It is expected that the successful candidate will register and submit this work for a higher degree.The application will be a 2-stage process.
Applicants who have been short-listed by NHSBT will also need to submit an application to the University of Oxford.
Further details will be provided to short-listed candidates.Working under the supervision of Dr Michael Desborough, Prof Simon Stanworth, Dr Paula Dihman and Dr Lise Estcourt, the appointed research fellow will work closely with the NHSBT Systematic Review Initiative in Oxford, the national FNAIT group and the platelet immunology laboratory in Bristol.
This clinical research will include systematic reviews, meta-analysis and prospective clinical studies.
Main duties of the job Applicants for this post should be a clinical registrar in haematology, feto-maternal medicine or paediatrics.Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) affects approximately 1:1100 pregnancies.
At its most severe it can cause fetal or neonatal intracerebral haemorrhage.This DPhil studentship will have three parts.
The first part will be a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing published data on management of FNAIT.
This work will be undertaken with the support of the NHSBT Systematic Reviews Initiative.
The second part will be an epidemiological study assessing when FNAIT diagnoses are being made in the United Kingdom and if there are areas where they are being missed.
The third part will be a registry study correlating clinical and laboratory data to assess FNAIT outcomes in the United Kingdom.
It is anticipated that this will lead to new national guidelines and recommendations.
