Main duties of the job An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a full time Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology (Band 8A) to join the Clinical Neuropsychology service located in Victoria House at Southampton General Hospital, University Hospital Southampton Trust (UHS).
The highly regarded Neuropsychology service is part of the Wessex Neurological service which provides a range of neurological services for the Wessex region.
The post holder will join an established well-integrated and valued neuropsychology team.
The team presently provides diagnostic and support services across a range of clinics and acute wards at UHS.
This is an amazing opportunity for the post holder to gain valuable experience of diagnostic assessments and therapeutic input for a broad spectrum of neurological conditions for both inpatients and outpatients at UHS.
The post holder will also contribute to the awake craniotomy service.
The post holder will work alongside a dynamic team of skilled clinical neuropsychologists and assistant clinical neuropsychologists working in a variety of interesting specialties across UHS.

Job description Job responsibilities The key areas the post holder is likely to be involved with include: the Epilepsy service, Cognitive service (early onset dementia), in-patient Stroke rehabilitation team, the awake craniotomy surgery service, HD and MS outpatient neurological service.
The role will include direct and indirect clinical input to patients, their families and their carers, in addition to attendance at MDTs.
Opportunities are available to work on clinical research trials and in service audit.
Regular supervision and peer support will be provided.
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who enjoys working as part of a team and is keen to learn.
The successful candidate will, in collaboration with the Lead Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and the clinical team, provide detailed cognitive assessments and contribute to the provision of a high-quality evidence-based psychological service.
Any prior experience of awake craniotomy surgery would be order to be eligible for this post you must have successfully completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and have 2 years post qualification experience in a neuro and clinical setting.
Person Specification Trust Values Essential Patient First Always Improving Working Together Qualifications / training required Essential Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Profession's Council Desirable Formal training in supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience Registration on the British Psychological Society's Register of Applied Practice Supervisors (RAPPS) Post-Doctoral level training in Clinical Neuropsychology and eligible for registration on the British Psychological Society's Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists Previous or relevant experience necessary Essential Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of 2 years.
Experience of working in one or more of the following neuro relevant settings: a neuropsychology service, a Memory Assessment Service, an Older People's Mental Health Service or an acute hospital neuro department or Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit.
Experience of working within and actively participating in a team environment Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment Experienced in the application of advanced theoretical and experimental models from neuroscience, medicine and psychology in the administration of diagnostic procedures requiring resection, electrical stimulation, or sedation of the brain Knowledge of legislation and policy developments in the area of neurological and long-term conditions, capacity and consent.
Desirable Experience of supervision and teaching assistants and trainee psychologists.
Undertaking or working towards the BPS Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology.
Experience of representing the profession in a range of policy fora.
Experienced in the application of advanced theoretical and experimental models from neuroscience, medicine and psychology in the administration of diagnostic procedures requiring resection, electrical stimulation, or sedation of the brain Working knowledge of the management and leadership frameworks of the NHS and BPS.
Aptitudes and skills required Essential Skilled in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment and intervention A high-level ability to communicate (orally and in writing) to a wide variety of recipients in a range of settings including clients, their families, carers and professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
Including the ability to produce comprehensive and coherent letters, reports and associated documentation.
Required to be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to people in a manner that overcomes potential barriers such as cognitive impairment, limited or no use of English or psychiatric conditions Will routinely be required to tolerate and manage cognitive confusion, impairments and disturbed behaviour associated with neuropsychological/neurological conditions.
Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non- professional groups Ability to develop and use complex multimedia materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings Ability to organise and plan assessments so that they can be undertaken by junior staff or by trainee Neuropsychologists Evidence of continued professional development as recommended by BPS and HCPC Ability to provide a culturally competent and non-stigmatising service including an awareness of the potential impact of discrimination and disadvantage on mental health Ability to work autonomously in community and hospital settings.
Competence in the use of IT systems including NHS service delivery systems, statistical packages.
Desirable Advanced knowledge of research design and methodology at a post-doctoral level appropriate for monitoring of service activity and outcomes and clinical audit including complex multivariate analytic techniques
