Job overview We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join our well-established, dynamic and welcoming Adult Community Psychology Team in South West Essex. They will lead on offering comprehensive psychological assessment and risk assessments, together with evidence-based interventions targeted at managing the needs of clients presenting with severe and enduring problems.

Location: South West Essex (Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock)
Hours: 37.5 per week
The Adult Community Psychological Service provides a Tier 2 service to the South Essex locality. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist psychological input to the local community mental health teams comprising the First Response Team (FRT) and Recovery and Wellbeing Team (RWT). The FRT delivers care and interventions to clients newly referred to secondary care mental health services for a period of 6 months. The RWT delivers care plans aligned to recovery focused outcomes to clients with longer term needs. As a member of the multidisciplinary team you will also be required to provide consultation, supervision and teaching to other professionals. There will be opportunity to work a proportion of this role remotely.
Main duties of the job The role involves developing psychology interventions and an associated strategy for service delivery for working with clients who present risks to themselves and/or others and who have histories of trauma and abuse. They will also be involved in supervising Trainee Psychologists as well as Clinical Associate Psychologists (CAPS), which the Psychological Services Directorate has taken an active role in facilitating the recruitment and training of. The role also involves offering advice and consultation on client's psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's and Trust's policies and procedures.
The service provides an environment for psychological therapies staff to develop their skills through high quality supervision and a supported CPD programme, ideal for staff who have an interest in developing specialisms with a focus on career progression, including generous possible training opportunities in EMDR, Schema Therapy, DBT and other modalities that link to service needs and appraisal objectives. Leadership training is also supported, depending on career progression needs, through the Trust's internal programme and the NHS Leadership Academy.

Person specification Education/Qualification Essential criteria Professional post-graduate qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (BPS accredited) HCPC Registered Desirable criteria Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology Doctoral level (or equivalent of) knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis Knowledge Essential criteria Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Relevant experience and extensive clinical experience Desirable criteria Demonstrate further specialist training and/or experience through specialist training and supervision (such as DBT, CAT, Schema therapy, EMDR, MBT or SCM) Skills/experience Essential criteria Experience in providing psychological/psychotherapy interventions at post graduate level. Experience of assessing complex clients for appropriate psychological intervention. Ability to develop and communicate psychological formulations. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, presenting with a range of clinical severity Desirable criteria Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision of other staff Experience in offering consultation and staff support to multidisciplinary staff teams Skills in psychometric assessment and ability to administer neuropsychological tests Personal Qualities Essential criteria Shares the Trust's Beliefs and models this in their attitude and behaviour: Positive attitude to collaborative team work Accountable for own professional actions and ability to work autonomously Please note - staff who are formally at risk within the organisation will be given priority in securing alternative employment.
