This rewarding clinical nurse specialist role is an excellent opportunity to apply your advanced nursing skills within the specialism of Colorectal Services in NHS Highland.
Along with our established team of dynamic colorectal CNSs, you will provide advanced nursing care using evidence based practice to ensure effectiveness of outcomes; working closely with surgical, oncology and palliative care teams.
COLORECTAL CANCER CARE You will work across role boundaries to provide comprehensive, holistic and high quality care for patients with colorectal cancer.
You will attend the GI Cancer MDT and act as an expert resource for other health professionals involved in the care of these patients.
This will involve: Enhanced vetting & triage of new colorectal referrals, according to established algorithms.
Establish a nurse-led outpatient clinic (phone/video/f2f) for new patients referred in an Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) category.
Develop and enhance existing colorectal cancer follow-up pathways and establish review clinics to identify and treat post-operative bowel, urinary and sexual dysfunction.
Embed patient-related outcomes (PROMS) and patient-related experience (PREMS) as part of the colorectal cancer care pathway.
PELVIC FLOOR SERVICE (PFS) The pelvic floor service cares for patients with faecal incontinence, obstructed defaecation and other functional disorders of the colon and rectum.
You will attend and participate in the local and regional Pelvic Floor MDT and will work closely with colorectal, urological and gynaecological surgeons, urology nurse specialists, physiotherapists and GI physiologists.
In-post mentoring and CPD opportunities will be provided to allow the post-holder to develop skills in the following areas: Enhanced vetting & triage of new PFS referrals Establish nurse-led assessment of new PFS patients, initiating conservative management, referring to specialist physiotherapists and establishing the need for consultant surgeon review.
Establish a nurse-led Sacral Nerve Stimulation (SNS) follow-up clinic for implant re-programming and troubleshooting.
Assessment and counselling for patients considering stoma formation or insertion of an antegrade colonic irrigation (ACE) tubes ENHANCED RECOVERY AFTER SURGERY (ERAS) Support the existing and mature ERAS programme for colorectal patients within NHS Highland.
STOMA CARE Work with the existing CNS team to deliver a quality specialist nursing service that provides the physical, psychosocial and educational requirements of anyone with a stoma or requiring stoma formation in NHS Highland.
This includes those who have had stoma formation as a result of treatment for gynaecological and urological conditions.
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE (IBD) Liaise with IBD MDT to provide a high standard of care, sensitive to the needs of the patient undergoing surgery for inflammatory bowel disease/ diverticular disease, including follow up of those who have undergone restorative surgery.
THIS POST IS SUITABLE FOR A BAND 6 DEVELOPMENT POST through Annex 21, with strong support from the existing colorectal team.

This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.
This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.
However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
