Job overviewWe have an exciting opportunity for a highly specialist paediatric physiotherapist to join our multidisciplinary team at King's. The Paediatric Acute Physiotherapy service works across Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), wards and clinics including the management of inpatient and outpatient children on Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV). The successful postholder will provide leadership for all of the daytime acute respiratory, post-surgical, liver, trauma and orthopaedics patients as well as operational oversight of the overnight and weekend emergency respiratory physiotherapy services.
Main duties of the jobThe postholder will be a physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of paediatric acute respiratory conditions including babies and children in PICU; medical respiratory conditions both acute and chronic; paediatric orthopaedic problems including fractures and trauma; post-elective surgery; paediatric patients following general surgery; children with liver disease and post liver transplantation; and Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) patients for both inpatient and outpatient paediatric physiotherapy services.
They will be responsible for clinical leadership and service development within the paediatric physiotherapy services at King's College Hospital and shape these services appropriately to respond to growing and changing clinical landscapes and the development of more advanced care options.
The postholder will be responsible for the operational management of the respiratory paediatric physiotherapy weekend and overnight emergency on-call services and manage the safety and governance of these services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe postholder will deliver treatment based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge including appropriate highly specialist skills and will provide supervision and clinical support to the inpatient acute paediatric physiotherapy team and students to meet individual and service needs. They will be responsible for clinical leadership and service development within the paediatric physiotherapy services at King's College Hospital and shape these services appropriately to respond to growing and changing clinical landscapes and the development of more advanced care options.
The postholder will be responsible for governance of the services and will develop and deliver paediatric physiotherapy as per NICE guidance and other relevant standards. They will work with other paediatric therapy teams to ensure a high quality, effective and efficient service to patients presenting with all types of conditions both acute and chronic.
Person specificationEducation and QualificationTo have a degree or other recognised qualification in PhysiotherapyWorking at a Masters level, as demonstrated by ongoing CPD (including M level), evidence-based project work, external post-graduate lecturingHCPC RegisteredPostgraduate training and experience in the clinical specialities of paediatrics and/or infantsMember of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)MSc in a clinically relevant or related areaKnowledge and ExperienceSignificant post-graduate paediatric experience including paediatric acute respiratory, PICU, post-surgical, neurology, NIV, Major Trauma, musculoskeletal and orthopaedicsSpecialist experience in the physiotherapy management of acute respiratory paediatrics, including PICUHighly specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of complex paediatric conditions in both acute and chronic presentationsUnderstanding of NHS Structure and current issues including role of physiotherapist in the evolving health environmentRobust knowledge and experience of Clinical Governance and its implications for own practice and the physiotherapy serviceSpecialist experience in the management of paediatric patients on accessing NIVExperience of participating in or leading researchManagement / Leadership training and experienceSkills and CompetenciesCompetent to manage respiratory physiotherapy needs of acute paediatrics including babies and children on PICUTrained and competent in acute paediatric specific assessments, treatments and outcome measures for a range of conditionsAble to demonstrate continuing professional development at a post-graduate level e.g. up to date CPD portfolio, reflective practice and training receivedDemonstrates leadership attributes and motivational skillsExcellent team building and team working skillsEmployer certification / accreditation badgesYou must have appropriate UK professional registration.
