This isan exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our experiencedteam within the Clinical Genetics Department based at Chapel Allerton Hospital,Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is a 6 month post starting on, butpreferably before, 3rd March 2025.
Thepost is suitable for doctors, with an interest in Clinical Genetics, especiallythose considering applying for a national training number in Clinical Geneticsin the future.Youwill work and contribute to the running of a busy Clinical Genetics department.You will be actively involved in clinics, MDTs, acute ward referrals andteaching.
You will work in a team with our training registrars.
You will besupported and supervised by the consultant team.
You will also work closelywithin our wider team: genetic counsellors, genomic associates, admin and labcolleagues.
The post will give you valuable experience for your clinicalgenetics national recruitment application and interview.
Main duties of the job Theclinical fellow, under supervision, will hold clinics, contribute todepartmental and multidisciplinary team meetings and deliver teaching sessions.The role will also include supporting the consultants in their delivery ofexcellent clinical care.Theclinical fellow may be required to carry out some or all of the followingroles:1.Support consultant clinical activity2.Hold outpatient (Leeds and Hull), telephone and video clinics3.Participate in the urgent hot week and ward referral rota4.Write and sign-off clinic letters promptly5.Attend all stipulated departmental meetings6.Support multidisciplinary team meetings7.Undertake audit or quality improvement projects8.Teach medical students and other medical personnel as directed9.Attend induction and comply with all local policies including dress code,annual and study leave10.Maintain continued professional developmentYoumay have the opportunity to deliver national presentations and contributing topublications About us LeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust is part of the West Yorkshire Association of AcuteTrusts (WYAAT), a collaborative of the NHS hospital trusts from across WestYorkshire and Harrogate working together to provide the best possible care forour patients.TheDepartment of Clinical Genetics is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital with asatellite unit in Hull Royal Infirmary and is part of the Leeds TeachingHospitals Trust.

You will join ateam of 8 consultants, 8 specialty trainees, 2 GPwSI and genetic counsellors toprovide a specialist service to West, North and East Yorkshire.
Clinics areheld at several hospitals in the region.
Specialist clinics and MDT meetingsare held with several sub-specialist clinical teams.
We provide an urgentneonatal review service.
We work closely with our genetic laboratory andcolleagues in the Sheffield and Newcastle genetic services.Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our processof redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles.

Job description Job responsibilities The post will give the Clinical Fellow a widebreadth of experience to help with their application for a national trainingnumber.
This can be tailored and in addition to clinical experience may includeactive participation in audit, quality improvement projects, teaching,delivering national presentations and clinical research, includingopportunitiesfor contributing to publications.
Thehours are standard working hours of 9-5pm Monday to Friday with an additionalhour on Monday from 8-9am to help set up the departmental MDT meeting.
Due toclinic and MDT commitments occasional days may require an 8am start time.
Therole may include attending clinics in Hull occasionally (1-4 times per month).These working days may be longer due to travel.
Thepost duties may include a combination of the following.
The post holder may notbe required to carry out all the duties listed.
This will depend upon therequirements of the service.
1.Support consultant clinical activity.

9.Attend specialist clinics, departmental teaching activities including genomicseducation and other relevant clinical meetings.
10.Attend induction and comply with all local policies including dress code,annual and study leave.
11.Maintain continued professional development.
SupervisionDayto day supervision and support will be provided by the appropriate member ofconsultant, medical or specialist nursing staff as appropriate.KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDThepost is suitable for a candidate who has achieved or is working towardspostgraduate professional exams, such as Membership of Royal College ofPhysicians, Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, General Practice,Obstetrics & Gynaecology or equivalent (MRCP, MRCPch, MRCGP or MRCOG) andcan demonstrate considerable previous clinical experience and skills.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC Registration to allow a start date of March 2024.
Passed Part 1 of Postgraduate professional exams such as Membership of Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, General Practice or Obstetrics & Gynaecology or equival Eligibility to work in the UK.
Has demonstrable skills in written and spoken English.

UK driving licence and access to car Experience Essential Is able to demonstrate a good understanding of working as a doctor in the NHS.

Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstance.
Evidence of developing a career in Clinical Genetics.
Competent in the management of adult and/or paediatric diseases with the ability to prioritise clinical need.
Understands evidence based practice.
IT Skills, ability to use web browser, excel, word etc Values working in a team with ability to motivate and develop both medical staff and non-medical staff.
Demonstrates understanding and involvement of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
