Job summary TheClinical Coding Department is looking for new Clinical Coders to join ourhybrid team.
We are a modern forward-thinking department looking for qualifiedclinical coders or open-minded enthusiastic people who are willing to undertakeour 3-year Clinical Coding Training plan.Thepost holder will become a key member of the department, responsible for thedaily management of their job plan, ensuring the delivery to highest ofstandards whilst meeting the national targets and standards whilst workingmostly independently from home.OurClinical Coding Department delivers coding complete for over 250,000 episodesper year.
We have WTE Clinical Coders with 53% AAC qualified and theremaining working towards their qualification.
Our Trust treats a wide range ofcomplex / regional patients so our work is interesting and varied.
We arelooking for someone with an understanding of the key principles of clinicalcoding with the ability to continuously improve performance.
Main duties of the job ClinicalCoders analyse clinical documentation and accurately record information abouteach patients diagnosis and procedures for each hospital admittedattendance.
This data is used to analysehospital activity and outcomes at a national and local level.
To do this,Clinical Coders must have a substantial knowledge of human anatomy, diseasesand the surgical techniques used by clinicians in many differentspecialties.
They must have an excellentunderstanding of the over 400 coding standards and data collection rules.Priorexperience of coding is desirable but not essential; full in-house trainingwill be provided with our training progression plan.
Those with no prior experience of coding canexpect to learn the role over the course of three years, prior to sitting theNational Clinical Coding Qualification to achieve full accreditation.
About us TheClinical Coding Department is a large and diverse team with a strong work ethicand high standards.
The team work mainly from home barring a few exceptions bychoice.
This is because of our Trust EPR and scanning service enables our teamto code digitally.
Weask that the teams attend the LTHT site a minimum of four times per year or forbusiness need such certain training, equipment failure and operationalrequirements.
This will ensure that staff can build and maintain relationshipswith other team members.Asa department we rotate the clinical coders assigned job plans every six monthsto ensure our clinical coders maintain their skill mix.Thedepartment has a training and audit function with 3 auditors, a trainer and anassistant trainer.
This is to ensure the continued improvements in the depthand quality of our clinical coding as well as support the trainees undertakingour annex 21 training plan for the ACC qualification.

Person Specification Experience Essential Continued professional development Desirable Detailed working knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS4 coding rules with extensive experience of their use in order to provide an advisory service to own staff and other interested bodies Experience of Patient Administration Systems Excellent keyboards skills and use Microsoft packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
and Outlook emails Qualifications Essential ACC Qualified or willing to work towards accreditation, under Annex 21 Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) Grade C or above in English Language and Human Biology Desirable Post ACC experience in a clinical coding role Other Criteria Essential Knowledge of Data Protection Act and management of Freedom of Information requests Be aware of, and demonstrate commitment to the Trusts and Department policies and procedures Skills and Behaviours Essential Good standard of written and spoken English and ability to adapt style/method to suite the situation Works to a high degree of accuracy within tight deadlines.
Capable of developing effective working relationships with all professional contacts in all disciplines Ability to prioritise own and others workload Adaptable, cope with conflicting pressures Enhanced knowledge of medical and clinical terminology Excellent knowledge of hospital information systems Embodies the Leeds Way Values Desirable Excellent attention to details Ability to detect data anomalies Ability to work as part of a team Ability to offer advice on complex clinical coding issues
