Job Purpose To act for the consultancy's Supervision team on site to ensure delivery of the client's highway scheme to the required quality standard.
To support the consultancy's Supervision team by collating adequate records for both commercial and technical purposes.
To proactively engage with the Contractor and take early corrective intervention (with the support of the Supervisor) to avoid defects.
Main Responsibilities and Duties Ensure the Contractor adheres to the Contract Specification Testing & Certification requirements and the Contractor's site quality plan.
Promote best practice across the Delivery Team.
Observe the Contractor's working operations for compliance with the Specification and undertake the recording of daily ongoing works (plant, people, gangs, weather, etc.)
and specific matters as requested by the Supervision or Commercial teams.
Inspect works that will be covered up as part of the permanent works and work collaboratively with the contractor to correct defective work.
Agree on defective works with the Contractor and record them on the site quality systems.
Attend site and observe ongoing works.
Suggest areas for improvement to the Supervisor.
Observe the on-site health and safety aspects of the Contractor's operations and inform the Contractor's Supervision staff and the Supervisor of key H&S risks and areas for improvement.
Attend meetings as requested by the Supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience 10 years minimum relevant practical work experience within the Highways or Bridge sector.
Trade qualification or HNC in Civil or Building related discipline.
Familiarity with the MCHW - Specification for Highway Works and associated testing and inspection protocols.
Ability to read drawings and specifications and understand key testing points.
Driving Licence and CSCS Card.
Competencies & Behaviours Ability to liaise confidently (and if necessary assertively) with the Contractor on all testing technical matters and inspections as required.
Ability to work within a team and request support where necessary.
Proactive approach to the resolution of issues.
Diligent and logical approach to problem solving and record keeping.
Ability to liaise confidently with the Contractor on all observed unsafe health and safety practices or near misses.
Good communication skills working within a collaborative team environment.
Excellent record management skills (e.g., daily diaries) including the use of app-based record keeping products.
Familiarity and competence in the use of Office software.
