Job Title: Children's Home Manager (8-18) Location: Derby Type of Home: 2-Bed Good EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) Children's Home Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience) Working Hours: 40-hour week, typically 9 AM to 5 PM Annual Leave: 30 days (including bank holidays) Benefits: Progression opportunities and a comprehensive wellness package Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children's Home Manager to oversee the daily operations of our 2-bed GOOD EBD children's home in Derby.
You will play a critical role in providing high-quality care and support to our residents while leading a team of dedicated staff.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and young people, particularly those with complex needs, and a commitment to safeguarding their well-being.
Key Responsibilities Management of the Home: Oversee the daily operations of the children's home, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Leadership and Support: Provide guidance, support, and direction to staff, modeling best practices during challenging situations.
Regulatory Compliance: Register as a Manager with OFSTED and collaborate with the senior management team to advocate for the best interests of the young people and staff.
Safeguarding: Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, promoting a safe environment for all residents.
Main Duties Ensure policies and procedures are current and effectively implemented to reflect best practices and the company's values.
Evaluate the quality of care provided by staff and identify areas for improvement.
Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere for staff through regular supervision and debriefing sessions.
Participate in the placement process and transition of children in and out of the home.
Review staffing structures and collaborate with HR on recruitment, induction, and training.
Monitor the home's budget and resource allocation.
Promote equality and diversity within the home's practices.
Collaborate with external professionals and agencies to enhance the care provided to young people.
Conduct staff supervisions, welfare meetings, and disciplinary procedures as necessary.
Implement performance improvement plans and provide necessary training and mentoring.
Manage team leaders, ensuring they are equipped to supervise support workers effectively.
Participate in shift scheduling and maintain adequate staffing levels.
Uphold health and safety protocols, ensuring the well-being of staff and residents.
Proactively address any health and safety concerns in accordance with legal requirements.
Maintain and monitor quality assurance systems to ensure adherence to agreed standards.
Person Specification Qualifications: Relevant management qualification (e.g., Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or equivalent).
Relevant social care qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 5 or equivalent).
Up-to-date safeguarding training.
DBS on the update service.
Willingness to pursue further qualifications as required.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a residential care setting, specifically working with children with learning disabilities and complex needs.
Experience in care management and supervision.
Proven ability to manage complaints and support staff in handling challenging behaviors.
Familiarity with the OFSTED registration process and inspections.
Skills: Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Strong report writing and IT skills (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets).
Ability to formulate care and placement plans and conduct risk assessments.
Proficiency in cost management and resource allocation.
Personal Qualities: Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following through on tasks.
Discreet, diplomatic, and capable of maintaining confidentiality.
Commitment to promoting equality and diversity within the home.
A proactive "CAN DO" attitude and the ability to work effectively within a senior management team.
Other Requirements: Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
Right to work in the UK.
