Job summary We are recruiting for a Children's Community Nurse.The successful applicant will join our team of Children's Nurses and Health Care Assistants who provide hands on care and support to children with short term illnesses, long term disabilities, chronic health conditions and end of life care.We deliver in a variety of settings such as homes, educational settings and clinic settings.
We are based in Capital House, Faversham and the team work across 4 localities (Canterbury, Ashford, Thanet and Folkestone/Dover).
The Successful applicant will be required to work across all of these to support the team.You will be supported in the role with a robust training package and clinical supervision sessions to support professional development Main duties of the job The East Kent Community Children's Nursing Team is based in Capital House, Faversham and also includes a small Children's Asthma Team, Oncology Service and Epilepsy Nurse Specialists.As a Community Children's Nurse you would be providing care under the direction of the Team Leader and Community Nurse Specialists to children in a variety of settings including their homes, educational establishments and clinics throughout East Kent.The Community Children's Nurses provide a core service 7 days a week including bank holidays plus early and late shifts assigned via a monthly roster.
They also provide an on-call out of working hours to provide 24 hour visiting service for End of Life care to children\young people in their care.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse (Child Branch) or RSCN.
Evidence of relevant post-registration training\qualifications Desirable Evidence of any Leadership and\or Management training.
Experience Essential At least 2 - 3 years post-registration clinical experience working with children and their families.
(Alternatively 12-18months post-registration clinical experience and approx.
12 months working as a Band 5 Associate Community Children's Nurse) Wide range of professional knowledge and experience of paediatric nursing including palliative care, oncology, respiratory, cardiac, gastroenterology, special needs, complex care and experience of working with children/young people with additional needs, including those with life threatening/life limiting conditions and long term conditions in a variety of settings and an awareness of the child/young person's physical, emotional, psychological and social needs and how best to meet them.
Desirable Experience of palliative care within the community setting Knowledge Essential Sound nursing knowledge and experience of all basic clinical nursing skills, including care of Tracheostomies, enteral feeding devices & Central venous catheters.
Desirable Understanding of the different roles of nurses within community settings.
Skills and abilities Essential Sound basic clinical skills.
Good communication skills incorporating communication with children\young people and their carers.
Ability to prioritise workload.
Sound IT skills.
Good record keeping (in line with professional guidance).
Ability to work autonomously.
Desirable Lateral thinking, problem solver with ability to plan ahead Personal attributes Essential Approachable, confident, empathetic, trustworthy, passionate about delivery of high quality nursing care
