Job summary Are you looking for a new challenge, working and leading a great team on Chelmer Ward where excellent patient care is the main focus that offers a structured education, training and development programme to help you develop your skills and your knowledge.Your primary role will be to work as a skilled member of the surgical nursing team, assisting in the provision of high-quality care to patients and families including assessment and evaluation of patients, then following agreed care pathways.You will develop and maintain good unit management and organisational skills and assist with the provision of an environment conductive to the education of staff.
Duties also to include the cleaning, maintenance and safe handling of equipment Main duties of the job As Charge Nurse you will be expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and clinical expertise in the management of patients requiring cardiothoracic care, including patients requiring drain management, pacing, Epidural and PVB which will include supervising junior members of staff and assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating patient care, utilising an individual, holistic approach ensuring accurate and thorough initial and on-going assessment of all the patients admitted electively or as an emergency, Your role will include teaching, facilitating and developing members of the Ward team and in the absence of the Ward Manager, you will assume managerial responsibility for the Ward, assisting in the planning, co-ordination and management of human, financial and physical resources within Chelmer Ward whilst reporting and investigating accidents / incidents timely as per Trust Policy and investigate complaints and write reports as required.You will maintain a high standard of effective communication with the Ward Manager and all members of the Ward team, delegating appropriately and supervising the clinical work of nursing and ancillary staff, to ensure the highest standard of patient care and adherence to Trust policy whilst acting as a role model for junior staff.

Person Specification Skills Essential Ability to motivate staff Good leadership and decision-making skills Able to demonstrate interest in research-based nursing Previous evidence of presentation skills Desirable Conflict resolution skills Previous evidence of attendance at communication workshop Experience Essential Proven ability and experience within the Cardiothoracic setting.
Significant experience of facilitating learning in clinical practice including formal teaching Desirable Cardiothoracic experience Tertiary Centre experience Experience as a band 6 (sister/Charge Nurse) Professional registration Essential NMC Desirable Previous Cardiothoracic experience
