Job summary To be responsible for the operational managementand efficient delivery of Spinal Surgery services provided within the Centrefor Neurosciences clinical service unit (CSU), in support of the ServiceManager (SM) and General Manager (GM), ensuring effective co-ordination andmanagement of budgets and agreed national or local performance objectives andcontracts.
The post holder will manage the administrative staff and will workin partnership with the Matron, ward managers, medical staff and other staff withinthe CSU on business planning and the development and continuous improvement ofpatient care processes.
Appropriate working relationships will be establishedwith colleagues in other directorates with whom their service interacts andwith external bodies, such as GMs, and Service Managers within otherspecialties, for the fulfilment of particular service issues.
The ServiceManager will work with colleagues within the corporate directorates.
Main duties of the job willbe responsible for the management of all administrative functions and servicedelivery.
They will be responsible for the delivery of financial, activity andwaiting time targets.
They will provide line-management and leadership to allstaff for whom they have responsibility.Tooversee the management of administrative staff and services in support of theprovision of high-quality care, teaching and research, within a patient-centredenvironment.Toensure that staff are informed and engaged with planning/objective-setting andreceive regular feedback on directorate performance.Totake a lead on service redesign involving front-line staff and patients indelivering effective, efficient, and timely services, in a cost-effective way.Toensure that the necessary resources are available to deliver clinical andnon-clinical services.Toensure that service delivers financial targetsTotake responsibility for delivery of activity, waiting list and RTT waiting time About us LTHTis one of the largest providers of specialist hospital services in the country,covering over 100 specialties, many of which are delivered across the region.Around 49% of our patient care income of around £ billion comes from ourspecialised commissioners, NHS England.

OurClinical Service Units (CSUs) deliver all of our services and are led by atriumvirate team, including a Clinical Director, a Head of Nursing orProfession and a General Manager.

Presents proposals to the General Manager to input to the broaderstrategic debate within the Trust.
Understands the whole systems impactliaising with external partners as appropriate Leads the development, monitoring anddelivery of business and service plans and processes towards Trust and Nationalpolicies and targets Manages the integration of a varietyof resources to deliver targets/patient pathways the majority of which areongoing Assists in the development of andmonitors activity plans for the CSU, making adjustments as necessary Leads the development of businesscases whether for changes to service, new equipment or new posts which impactacross the whole organisation Ensures administration processessupport efficient patient pathways Participates in the CSU involvementof patients and representative groups in service planning and development.
Works in partnership with CSUcolleagues and other CSU Teams and external agencies to ensure high qualitypatient care is delivered within Trust frameworks the Trusts short to mediumterm objectives are delivered Leads and motivates staff in thedelivery of quality patient care across complex clinical and businessenvironments and services Identifies and leads projects tomodernise and improve service delivery and patient access Participates appropriately in theinvestigation of complaints On behalf of the General Manager,leads specific project work within the CSU and on cross-CSU issues Manages waiting lists, leading changewhere necessary to ensure targets are met Ensures that all patient and servicerelated policies, including modernisation strategies such as booking andpartial booking are implemented Assist with policy development acrossthe organisation relevant to local area MAJAX, Winter Plan, NationalService Frameworks Ensures the local implementation ofTrust policies and procedures People and Corporate Governance, Health andSafety Assists the General Manager in thedevelopment and monitoring of Service Level Agreements for services provided byor to other CSUs Manages agreed budgets to ensure theefficient and effective use of such resources and the achievement of allfinancial targets Recruits and line-managesadministrative and clerical staff across the CSU.
