DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:As a member of the Regional Nephrology Program the successful candidate will play a critical role in providing biomedical equipment expertise within our home hemodialysis and in the in-centre hemodialysis units.
The Dialysis Biomedical Technologist will possess a strong understanding of the appropriate governing legislation and medical practice standards for biomedical equipment specifically hemodialysis equipment and Reverse Osmosis water systems.The successful candidate will:* Perform preventative maintenance and theoretical troubleshooting on all equipment used within the Dialysis unit including hemodialysis machines, water treatment equipment, non-invasive monitoring equipment, calibration meters' scales, etc.,* Perform preventative and leakage testing on all equipment, to ensure compliance with governmental, manufacturer's and departmental guidelines and standards.
* Materials management by ensuring effective utilization of supplies, equipment, spare parts and inventory is maintained.
* Provide recommendations on policies, procedures, procurement of supplies and equipment, and participates on continuous improvement projects and initiatives* Providing technical education for staff/interns/patients on equipment operation (including set up and dismantling) and optimization.
* Active involvement in achieving the goals and objectives of the Ontario Renal NetworkQUALIFICATIONS:*Graduate of a recognized 3-year Biomedical Technologist program.
*3 years of related experience in a hospital or industrial setting in the Biomedical/Dialysis field preferred.
*Individual must be familiar with the components which make up a "water system" including pre-treatment such as numerous particles filters, carbon filtration, softening systems, Ultra violet, temperature blending, and Ultrafiltration*Preferred experience with working on Fresenius 5008/5008S dialysis machines*Knowledge of use of chemicals such as cold sterilization, hypochlorite and citric acid concentrations to clean, descale and disinfect internal components of numerous dialysis equipment*Individual must have knowledge of electronics and hydraulics pertaining to the internals of Dialysis machines, RO water systems and other medical equipment*Proven to be computer literate with experience in producing educational and technical material;*Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills;*Proven to have strong leadership skills with a positive outlook for change;*A proven self-starter who requires minimal supervision and direction;*Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);*Demonstrate ability to understand and be committed to the customer focused/patient centred philosophy;*Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles;*Physically capable of performing duties including being able to walk extensively, climb stairs on a regular basis, standing for lengths of time, lifting and bending;*Must provide own transportation, as travel to other sites and patient homes will be necessary;*Must have strong communication skills and have compassion during interactions with patients*Must be available for training which could be away from home for approximately one week at a time.
*Must be able to work any shift, including on call, as necessary.
