As the Bid Manager you will be working closely with all disciplines within the team and the wider business, to ensure delivery of high quality, winning bids, and ensuring these are effectively mobilised to the project delivery team.
This role will be aligned with the SCADA portfolio working with internal and external partners to develop market leading systems and proposals.
The Bid Manager will lead on competitive and key internal bids for Siemens CIS portfolio.
This role will include ownership of LOA/PM@siemens governance process through to project handover, management of bid & portfolio strategy, internal & external stakeholder management and being accountable for the success of bids within the business.
The Bids and Tendering function is a centralised bidding team that is responsible for managing the bids for CIS Rail Infrastructure in the UK, ensuring appropriate levels of governance and accuracy is applied to a winning strategy.
The role is based in Ashby on a Hybrid basis.
You'll make a difference by • Leading the creation of winning tenders from Bid/No-Bid decisions through to customer negotiation and Contract Award for bids ranging from £100k to £10m.
• Defining and implement winning bid strategies, ensuring thorough breakdown of tender requirements and coordination of all technical, commercial, and financial aspects, including pricing structures and subcontract partnerships.
• Preparing, review, and coordinate high-quality, consistent tender documentation that captures the offer, mitigates risks, and provides an accurate baseline for future projects, incorporating lessons learned.
• Leading internal bid deliverables, prepare review materials, and act as the client's single point of contact during pre- and post-bid negotiations, encompassing technical, financial, and commercial aspects.
• Providing leadership to the tender team, influence and negotiate with stakeholders, and deliver progress reports to management, including internal and external presentations up to board level.
• Accurately manage bid budgets, ensure adherence to Siemens RI policies, and lead the transfer of knowledge from tendering to delivery, ensuring scope stability and handover, while driving process improvements in bid management.
Your success will be grounded by • Managing multiple bids simultaneously, navigating corporate governance procedures and approval workstreams, including financial, technical, and commercial aspects.
• Significantly experienced in bid management from engineering project-based businesses in regulated industries, including leading bids over £5m and managing bid budgets exceeding £250,000, with knowledge of Traction and Power SCADA systems.
Experience as a Bid Manager, Project Manager/Director, or Commercial Manager is highly valuable.
• Shaving a strong understanding of railway technology project delivery, enabling effective influence and monitoring of project management, finance, engineering, planning, and commercial inputs to minimize risk.
• Experience leading tender teams and matrix management of teams larger than 10, working with senior project and business managers, providing guidance and motivation toward shared goals.
• Strong customer focus with experience managing complex negotiations and fostering relationships at all levels within Siemens RI and client organizations, up to board level.
• Excellent communication (oral and written), proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Sharepoint), degree-qualified in a business or technically related field, with desirable certifications such as IEE, MIRSE, or APMP.
High achiever with the ability to perform under pressure with tight deadlines.
