Job summary The post holder will work with a team, to co-ordinate a bereavement support service for adults in Buckinghamshire who have been bereaved of someone with a life limiting condition or anticipating bereavement.
Ensure arrangements for service provision are met, including location, appropriate administrative processes, a referral system, recording mechanisms, policies and procedures and data collection for reporting on outcomes.
The service provides NICE component 2 and 3 and supports the Public Health framework for bereavement care.

Job description Job responsibilities Management and Leadership To be responsible for the effective and efficient day to day running of the adult and childrens listening service including the maintaining of appropriate records, producing reports and ensuring client confidentiality is maintained in accordance with national legal and ethical guidelines.
To undertake regular service reviews and develop the service in accordance with national guidelines and new initiatives.
To organise / attend necessary management meetings and professional meetings or, if appropriate, nominate a representative.
To participate in national and local bereavement networking events (such as the Bucks Bereavement Network).
To liaise with the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charitys (FNHC) Volunteer Service Co-ordinators over the recruitment and retention of volunteer Bereavement Listeners.
To train, educate and supervise the Bereavement Listeners, ensuring they are properly supported.
To assess referrals and manage appropriately, referring to other services as needed.
To assess risks and allocate clients to Bereavement Listeners appropriately.
To supervise and manage the Deputy Listening Service Lead and volunteers in such a way that will make best use of personal abilities and expertise.
To arrange clinical supervision for staff as appropriate.
To manage own caseload of clients for listening support.
To manage and facilitate regular bereavement listening groups.
To provide listening support to patients and families in the Inpatient Unit to help alleviate emotional distress.
To provide advice and support to community nurses in managing patient and family distress within the family home.
To support staff in the Inpatient Unit and the community nurses to help alleviate the impact of their work on their own physical and mental health and wellbeing.
To carry out annual personal development reviews as appropriate.
To be responsible for writing job descriptions and job profiles and subsequently interviewing for the appointment of bereavement staff and volunteers in the Listening Service, ensuring that all such appointments adhere to NHS guidelines.
To arrange staff inductions and support staff through periods of change.
To coordinate together with the Chaplaincy and FNHC team the delivery of the Time to Remember and Tree of Light commemoration events.
To liaise with the Trust wide Bereavement Group.
Develop services that are equitable but tiered to meet individual psychological and emotional needs.
Education and Training To develop, plan and deliver a training package for new Volunteer Listeners.
To develop, plan and deliver ongoing refresher training for all staff and volunteers.
To mentor staff and volunteers undergoing counselling education and training.
To provide basic awareness training of bereavement issues to staff across the hospice, the wider Trust, FNHC staff and other local groups (as requested).
To contribute to the Symptom control and end of life care degree module.
Clinical Governance To be aware and to report as required any concerns either via the Datex system or safeguarding protocol.
To attend the SDU Business and Governance meeting To manage safeguarding risks liaising with safeguarding team Communication To ensure that all record keeping is accurate, timely and effective; both written and electronic.
To be aware of own limitations and emotional effort needed and regularly attend clinical supervision.
Person Specification Education, Qualification and Training Essential Qualification in counselling or psychotherapy at Diploma or Master level BACP accreditation or equivalent Training in supervision/other relevant training Experience Essential 2 Year post-qualification experience Experience of coordinating a service Experience working therapeutically with complex individuals Experience working with the bereaved and assessing bereavement needs Experience working in a health care setting Experience working with volunteers Desirable Experience working in a counselling setting Skills, Ability and Knowledge Essential Understanding of loss and grief and the impact on individuals and families Ability to assess needs of the bereaved.
