Job summary Hillview Lodge is seeking a motivated Senior Practitioner to join its well established Adult and older Adult wards.Cedar Ward is a 12 bedded dementia assessment ward, providing comprehensive support for patients and their carers during a challenging phase of their illness.
Cedar is a developed, purposed designed unit providing a high quality working environment.Sycamore Ward is within the building of Hillview Lodge, in the grounds of The Royal United Hospital.
Sycamore is currently piloting a 15 bedded all female ward.You will demonstrate compassionate leadership and utilise your knowledge and skills to deliver clinical supervision to a number of registered and unregistered staff.The current working staff group recent feedback regarding working on Sycamore and Cedar includes:"It is a great place to work because the team is so friendly and supportive, it a safe and secure team.

You have great job satisfaction when you see the patients get well" Main duties of the job Ensure the continuing improvement of the service in line with organisational goals.Provide expert evidence based advice to the MDT.To lead and promote a whole team approach within the service to ensure a shared ownership of the teams caseload.Develop and maintain communication and relationships with wide range of people/services/agencies about complex matters or in complex situations with the purpose of sharing developing or resolving difficult or complex issues for the benefit of service users/carer and the service.To ensure, in partnership with the ward manager, the service develops and maintains excellent clinical standards this will be underpinned by robust and effective individual and team supervision.

Job description Job responsibilities The role will cover two inpatient wards - Adult Acute and Older Adult Organic (dementia).The Senior Practitioner will work alongside the ward manager to ensure that high quality care continues to be delivered by staff, and new learning embedded with the team.
The successful candidate will be required to lead by example in the clinical area, providing teaching sessions, attending MDT meetings, ward rounds and reviews and offer advise and support, particularly with more complex cases.The role will also include the following: Review of current practice and implementation and embedding new ways of working where required.
Develop practice in accordance with national guidance and use evidence-based research, Trust policies and standard operating procedures to support thisFacilitating and leading consistent clinical supervision and reflective practice processes, while helping others develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.Promote co-production across services with key focus on patient and carer experience and involvement.Address key patient safety and care quality issues through learning from experience, supporting and empowering team members to work in a psychosocially-informed way.Ensuring that all aspects of the Care Programme Approach (CPA) are embedded, bringing learning back to teams.

Person Specification Education and Qualification Essential Registered Clinical Practitioner ( Registered Adult, Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurse, Midwife, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist) Current professional registration (with NMC or HCPC) Possession of, or ability and willingness to undertake, a relevant post-registration qualification ( Advanced Clinical) Desirable Possession of a post-registration qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice, service/quality improvement or another clinically-relevant subject Experience and Knowledge Essential Substantial post-registration experience gained working in front-line mental health services Highly developed understanding of the principles of recovery in mental health/learning disabilities care and the role of secondary mental health services Experience of delivering defined outcomes against measurable targets Significant experience of complex clinical assessment and care planning (including mental state, risk, physical screening and range of other assessments) Experience of working alongside service users with families and carers Experience of providing clinical supervision to a range of practitioners Substantial experience of caring for service users within inpatient settings Experience of working as a clinical leader in mental health/learning disability services Experience of making decisions in the context of complex care pathways Desirable Possession of a post-registration qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice, service/quality improvement or another clinically-relevant subject Experience of managing clinical teams/services Knowledge of service or quality improvement frameworks/methodology Experience of team development and change Skills and Abilities Essential Ability to identify, challenge, report and address sub-optimal practice and to lead on team-wide improvement Able to articulate an advanced understanding of relevant frameworks, including CPA, rehabilitation and recovery models and appropriate legislation including Mental Health Act (1983/2007) and Mental Capacity Act (2005) Highly developed verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with people at all levels Highly developed active listening skills, which allow for reframing and testing of understanding Able to lead a team with warmth and authority, providing a sense of psychological safety Able to articulate a wide range of clinical concepts and processes in the context of a joined-up care and treatment network Highly developed written communication skills, with experience of compiling and sorting notes and reports, establishing statistical data and analysing information Well developed IT skills Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a complex care system Ability to manage time and prioritise, particularly when working under pressure Ability to identify, challenge, report and address sub-optimal practice and to lead on team-wide improvement
