Job overviewWe have an exciting opportunity for an optometrist to join our friendly and forward-looking team. We are particularly looking for someone with hospital contact lens and paediatric experience. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioners, 10 orthoptists, 6 optometrists, 2 Ophthalmic Scientific Practitioners, and our ECLO.
The Ophthalmology Department at King's is large, with 19 consultants covering all sub-specialities of ophthalmology. We serve a dynamic, diverse local population, providing a wide range of tertiary and specialist services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities: Undertake highly skilled, specialist roles.Assess a wide, varied, and complex patient group.Prioritize appropriate onward referral of patients.Develop treatment plans for individual patients.Provide advice and support to patients regarding visual problems.Assess patients pre and post-operatively.Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain administrative paperwork and patient appointment systems.Handle telephone queries and ensure proper information storage.Communication and Representation: Write patient records and communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.Work with community visual impairment teams.Person specificationQualificationDegree/Diploma in OptometryGOC registrationIndependent prescribingExperienceExtended role experiencePaediatric Refraction experienceComplex Contact Lens fitting experienceLarge teaching hospital experienceSkills and competenceAbility to manage own workload and work independently.Excellent presentation skills and ability to handle difficult situations.IMPORTANT: Check your email regularly for communications.Provide email addresses for referees.All staff are responsible for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
