Applications for HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist are now invited for the post of Deputy Training Lead within the Biochemistry Department (Automation and Special Chemistry) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
As an integral part of the leadership team, you will implement, deliver, and develop first-class training to ensure competency and maintenance of learning throughout the department.
As our colleagues look to you for knowledge, guidance, and support, you will live and breathe our values to ensure they are secure in the delivery of their duties and comfortable discussing any requirements or concerns they may have.
Main Duties of the Job Due to the nature of this role, it is essential that you have an understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through additional training or knowledge to postgraduate level or equivalent (e.g., Post registration specialist competency portfolio).
Evidence of continuing professional development in accordance with HCPC guidelines will be requested at the interview stage, so ensure to bring this along with you.
You will support the Training Leads with training activities, inductions, and portfolio work.
This role is primarily based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but there will be a future requirement to work across all sites that are part of UHB.

Person Specification Qualifications BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
State registration with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
Understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through additional training or knowledge to postgraduate level or equivalent (e.g., Post registration specialist competency portfolio).
Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HCPC guidelines.
Training Qualification.
Experience Experience of working in clinical laboratories commensurate with the laboratory position.
Experience of laboratory techniques and automation.
Experience of dealing with suppliers, clinical and support staff, the public, or customer care.
A working knowledge of biomedical science theory and practice (Haematology, Transfusion, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Cellular Pathology).
Quality control and assurance practices.
Laboratory health and safety.
HCPC and IBMS professional standards, ethics, and proficiencies.
Understanding of accreditation within labs (e.g., ISO 15189, MHRA).
Training role.
Additional Criteria Numerate and able to undertake scientific calculations with and without the use of aides.
Ability to perform in a team.
Manual dexterity to undertake automated, manual, and specialised techniques.
Good and accurate IT input and MS Office skills.
Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
Demonstrate logical thought processes and the ability to solve problems and plan remedial action.
Resilience and adaptability.
Self-motivated.
Expected to participate in all out-of-hours periods as required by service provision.
